Or if, say an artist friend had asked you to pose? Would you feel comfortable doing it?

yes, if you dont put it on the internet.
I probably wouldn’t do it because I’m a little on the thin side. On the other hand, if I looked like the ideally proportioned man (or so it is thought) as demonstrated by Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man, I’d certainly consider posing for the class.
Definitely. Art models (nude or not) make a lot of money posing for art classes. If I could make some money just from that, I certainly would.
I doubt I’d feel comfortable doing it for a class, but I’d almost certainly do it for a friend.
sure, if you don’t mind the whole class looking for hot fireplace pokers!!! need to see the cosmetic surgeon first! That was my plan, then my 401k tanked!
I was once asked to pose for a photographer who needed some nude photos for her portfolio. I had one stipulation. I would do it as long as I could cover certain areas with arms or hands or the like. Nothing ever came of it, but if the opportunity came again, I don’t see why not.
Same as augustlan; I’ve done it for a friend, but, I don’t think that I could do it for an art class.
If the opportunity ever came up I’d love to do it! As long as it stayed off the internet, like @charliecompany34 said. I’ve never had such an opportunity though…anyone know how you find out if a class needs a model? Do they advertise?
Yes, I have done it. It was for my friends graffiti art show. A few other girls and I stood there while he painted us, then he took photos (no heads showing) and showed them at a local art show. No one knew who we were, it was all anonymous. As far as him being a friend and it being awkward, it really wasn’t. I felt fine, the other girls were fine with it, no biggie. =]
Edit: By the way, he (the artist) wanted us to feel protected so he drafted up an agreement of what he was going to use the photos for – and what he wasn’t. If he wants to use them for any other reasons in the future, he has to come and ask us again.
I would draw @A_Beaverhausen too, but myself, no, i cant keep my leg still for at least ten minutes
ha! id be more worried about your third leg ;)
Thats discusting!! ur so perverted
GET A LIFE!!!!!
Hell yes!
ummm Auggie, do you consider me a friend? Would you like to do me a favor?
Only if I had a cock sock.
I’ll do you a favor Sueanne!
I would but I doubt a starving artist could afford that much charcoal.
Does that mean you like 3 prudes better than ur self?
i like no one better than myself.
with the exception of Dennis Rodman of course..
haha good one, watchin the celeb apprentice?
nope, just a HUGE fan
not
Not for Art Class. I’ve heard that guys a perv.
@Bluefreedom: You know, they take everyone. One of the advantages of life drawing is that no one is perfect. You can learn perfect from a book. :)
I wouldn’t, no real reason. More than I have no good reason to do it. I dunno about for just a friend. It would depend on a lot of things.
I’m a photographer (still a student) and a friend of mine posed nude for me. She’s in my portfolio and on my modelmayhem.com website, I had her sign a model release form giving me full ownership rights of the photos. But it wasn’t awkward at all, she was very comfortable and we had alot of fun. I even repaid her by taking some pictures of her for her boyfriend, tasteful of course.
And they really do take anyone. Once I we had a very old model in my drawing class named Leo. He was about 55–60 and a limo driver. He was pretty average except for the fact that his balls were 3 times as big as his u know what. It intrigued me though, and for some reason I had crotch shots/angles that whole semester. There was something about his wrinkley old balls…haha
I’ve posed a couple of times for people to draw me. I’ve seen the drawings, two of them don’t look anything like me. My close friend drew me very nicely, and I don’t care if anyone sees it.
@asmonet. Thanks for the nice words, my friend. =)
I just asked my boyfriend if he would have a problem if any of my friends asked me to pose nude for art and his reply was, “male friends?” he never gets jealous so I think it’s a little cute that he wouldn’t want me to pose for guys. :)
For an art class? I’d even do it for a math class.
In theory yes, if it’s for art. And I’ve done it for a photographer. But I’d be pretty hesitant to do either right now. In fact, I’m pretty sure I’d say “no” at this point.
I could never traumatize those poor art students like that…
@loser: Trust me, we’ve seen it all.
<Wonders where Sueanne Tremedous went…>
theoretically, sure. For real, no way. I am much too shy to expose my body to others for artistic purposes. I am 6’2” and 165 lbs. Everybody would draw me much thinner than I see myself. I am the model for the stick figure you see on warning labels.
I would in theory if I were paid enough. My pasty white flesh would probably blind them all before they got a good look though. I’d get my money up front.
Sure, why not? The only problem would be me being able to hold a pose for as long as needed.
I’d probably have trouble holding my pee for as long as needed.
I would but it’s hard for an artist to draw or paint someone when they’re looking away in terror.
@augustlan: They give you 10–15 minute breaks every hour, so no worries :)
@aprilsimnel: They also have models that change poses every 5, 10 or 15 minutes :)
@AstroChuck: Well, most people would feel a little odd looking at a naked little boy. We’re getting borderline child porn, here!
id want them to paint me to be more tan ;)
Yes I did and I will again. Besides from the third leg worry…it was very interesting to see how other people SEE you during the break. Really, it was no biggy.
@cprevite: Wow, I didn’t know people noticed I was gone. This makes me feel special. Anyway, Im on my spring break right now but lately I’ve been busy with school. I’m starting to really get into my photography and I think I’ve found what I love.
@ckinyc you’ve got THREE legs? Wow, ever work in a circus?
@nayeight: Hey, that’s great to hear. Would love to see your photos sometime. Best of luck with school.
@mrswho I agree, although like @A_Beaverhausen we could be “more tan”... Go Spring… we actually had sun here this week!!!
I can hardly take off my own clothes in front of myself (you know what I mean) without feeling self conscious.
I would love to though.
Am I the ONLY one who does NOT know what he means? Nor do I want to I think.
I’d do in a second.I’ve done self nude photos of me in black and white. I ended up with some good ones using indirect lighting. I’,m in a lot better shape now. So who wants to start drawing? As far as the internet goes. I’m out there anyways
I’ve posed nude for art classes, small art groups, and individual artists. No need to be so self-conscious about being in perfect shape. Rarely is there a recognizable likeness… they’re drawing the figure, not a portrait. A variety of body types is good for students, so they can learn to draw anyone, not just a “perfect” athletic body.
@Bluefreedom a very thin model would have the advantage of more visible muscle and bones, helpful to students learning anatomy.
@augustlan Generally you don’t have to hold a pose more than 30 minutes, then you can pee. ;-)
I’ve also done artistic nude photo shoots. @A_Beaverhausen Photographers are more particular about stuff like tan lines. Painters can use artistic license.
Here’s an informative resource if you are interested in art modeling.

@artmenu. That’s an interesting point. I never thought of that.

I’m an artist, yet I couldn’t possibly consider going nude in a room full of people….strangers or not. ( Beyond my comfort level.)
But, I have posed semi-nude for a photographer friend of mine. My one condition was that since it was photos, If my face was in them, then I wasn’t comforttable going full-frontal as well, too much exposure for a first -timer. or for photos as far as I was concerned. I could pose again for a fellow artist I was comfortable with.
Getting someone to pose for me however has been tricky, since the answer I’ve gotten most often is that they would be more comfortable posing for a class,( which I don’t get.)
so finding a model is rare outside of a group session.
Its not easy to ask someone to pose, I was flattered when I was asked and jumped at the chance, and the terms were negotiable between me and the artist ( we already knew each other ) and that put me at ease.
I really appreciate when someone is brave enough to pose and share something so personal for the sake of art.

I’ve done it! For a group before Covid, I’m also interested in doing again. I’m also in a wheelchair. At the moment I’m looking for people to paint for an Art project I’m doing.
