Not like I see any ads on there, or donate buttons for that matter.
Their hosting bill must be outrageous as well!

Twitter is currently riding on venture capital funding. Their only revenue stream is the advertising they run in Japan (and only Japan). Twitter operates at a loss.
As far as I know, they plan to open up to revenue opportunities soon, but that it is not a priority. They don’t seem very interested in ad money.
In my opinion, Twitter has a lot of opportunities in terms of additional services they could offer to businesses. The thousands of business customers that actively use the service could well do with having analytics available to them; such as how their followers are finding them, profile views to follower conversion, and more.
If they did choose to go down the advertising road, it might make more sense to be able to pay to have your business’ Twitter account featured as an ad, rather than traditional banner or text advertising.
It’ll be interesting to see how they finally choose to make money.
Why do we bring up Twitter so much on Fluther?
If you like it so much, why don’t you just LIVE there?! ;)
they will probably charge in the future to follow certain people, they just want you to get adicted to it till you cant live without it and make their millions from mindless sheep like us.
@mangeons I might as well live there considering how much I use it :P
You’re making Fluther feel bad! :(
does fluther make any money?
@mangeons nonono, don’t get me wrong, I’m on fluther the same amount, if not more!
No worries, I was just kidding. ;)
@A_Beaverhausen Fluther breaks even on advert, Amazon affiliate, and shirt revenue.
@richardhenry
You’re like a breath of fresh air.
It’s all about traffic initially and then there’s lots of options. I thought it was interesting that I saw a credit card billing option on the terms page, so someone is either paying now or will in the future. Or they’ll just sell the name. It’s all good though. That’s the American spirit.
