What is the best way to clean the cloth part of a cloth and leather handbag?

Asked by sjg102379 (1250points) November 4th, 2007

I have a Coach handbag that’s gotten a little bit dirty over the years. The leather part I can clean with Murphy’s Oil Soap, I think, but I have no idea how to clean the cloth parts. Thoughts?

I would recommend cleaning the Leather portion with a Leather Cleaner and clean the cloth part with warm water and gentle detergent like Woolite with a clean white cloth. Remember Blot-and don’t rub as you clean the fabric.

Good Luck!

The amazing thing about Coach bags is that they take care of their own—take it back to where you bought it (or Nordstroms that will deal in any case) and they should send it off for you where Coach will clean, refurbish, restore, and in general make the bag look like new. Or, you can send it off to Coach directly on your own. This used to be free, and may still be. Depending on what needs to be done, and how old the bag is, they may charge you a pittance. Very much worth it.
