When you play the party game, how do you choose between truth or dare?

We don’t play that game where I come from. Real life is dangerous enough. Too many crazy gangs running around with too many guns. Sure, some of the boys are more daring, trying to prove themselves, but truth? Truth is hardly known there. Children learn deception at their mothers teat.
Here, it’s a game. Still, how do you choose? What are you thinking about? Do you choose truth for fun? Dare for fun? Do you lie when you tell the truth? Do you challenge people with dangerous dares when they ask for it? What do you think about, both when you have to choose, or when you are setting the challenge? Forgive me if I don’t understand the rules that well. I’ve never “played” at this.

I was never very good at truth or dare – I couldn’t come up with good dares, so I’d always cross my fingers and hope they’d choose “truth”.
When I was choosing, it would depend on the people who were playing and the previous questions/dares that had been asked. If the dares were getting too out of hand (I’d always been a good girl) I would choose “truth”.
Which makes me wondering what truths you had (choose?) to tell…
We didn’t really play, but I knew my friends would set me up for something really awful if I chose dare, so I always played it safe with truth. And it was always something dumb like, my crush or who I’d kiss out of two really equally awful boys or whatever.
always truth… because i think people don’t know enough about me and i wonder what they want to know but never ask…
I usually chose dare. My truths were much more embarrassing than any dare.
I go with truth.
I’m an over-sharer anyway, so I don’t mind being asked weird questions (and I could always lie/stretch the truth if necessary) but I am not comfortable doing things that come along with dares.
What are turths? What are dared? I’m sorry. Maybe I do not tell you that in the question. In order to understand you, I need to know what these tuths or dares are that you are choosing. Then help me understand why these exemplars make you choose one or the other.
Truths are usually personal questions. Some common examples are :
-Would you rather date John or Evan?
-What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done?
-Do you have a crush on anyone in the room?
etc.
Dares involve doing stupid and or embarrassing things. For example:
-I dare you to run topless down the street.
-I dare you to kiss Melanie.
-I dare you to eat cat food.
Thank you @zephyr826. I begin to see what it is about.
When I was younger, I’d always pick “truth” because people always have a good dare lined up, but never a great truth question. I would pick either, I don’t really care. I just wouldn’t do anything that would constitute cheating on my husband.
Perhaps we should play now, so @rancid can experience the game. Who wants to go first?
In my version there was Truth, Dare, Double Dare, Promise or Repeat.
Truth and Dare were your typical options. A Double Dare meant that the person who specified the dare had to participate too. Promise was stupid and no one ever picked it. Repeat just meant you had to repeat whatever phrase was given to you at the top of your lungs, which could prove interesting because we mainly played the game at sleepovers and what not.
Truth is easy for me since I have no secrets. I’ll pick dare if it’s a generally safe group and it would be something like “go tell that old woman that you find her sexy”. But not with people that might say “go steal that cop’s gun and shoot at him”. Then again, I don’t have many friends like that anyway.
Interesting to find out where the expression “double dare” came from. Thanks Tits. I owe you a massage for that ;)
I always choose dare. But I like to live on the wild side, LOL.
I haven’t played since the time I burnt my dick on a light bulb.
@Blondesjon: That sounds like a story that needs telling.
@Jack79: In lieu of the massage (seeing as you don’t seem to be here for me to redeem it…), maybe lurve will suffice?
@TitsMcGhee I think Mr Blondesjon makes a joke. I know only one place where people get their dicks burned, and I don’t think Mr BolodnesJon was there. I could be wrong. If he had been there, then there is small chance we know each other.
UNless, maybe, he did it to him self. Then, I think, he is crazy. So must be a joke.
@rancid…i doubt we have met…no frequenter of turkish bath houses am i
i hate truth or dare. i can’t come up with any, i always answer truth, and i don’t see the point in picking truth anyways, because how would anyone know you’re lying?
maybe i’m just a party pooper.
but i really detest that game.
