If you had a genuine Love Potion in your possession, would you use it?

Asked by Blondesjon (34000points) March 20th, 2009

The question seems silly at first but the ethics behind it are anything but.

Would you slip someone a substance that would make them truly love you until the end of time?
Do I even need to ask you to include whom you would use it on?

I would use it on myself just to see what would happen.

it would probably turn me into a buddhist

Only on myself.

No. It would seem a little cruel to the other person, to bind them to you for eternity.

But it is living out many teenage boy’s fantasies

I don’t think so. That isn’t something I want to play with. I want someone to love me for me, not because I have a potion that made them.
A little optimistic?

I think I might just use it, but I’d certainly work my best to find a remedy before I do, just in case.

I think I’d use a dash on my ex, a dab on Tyson Beckford, a smidge on Jake Gyllenhaal, and little drops for all the guys in the cast of the UK’s Skins, John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats, and all the women on my list of 5 women I’d go bi for. Gotta keep it spicy. I’d have my own mixed-gender harem!

No. I’m good now and if I used it on him, I’d always wonder if he still loved me or if he was just compelled to. And that would suck.

I think giving someone a love potion is the exact opposite of having someone “truly love you” by default. if you gave them something, it is forced not true love.

There is only one thing left to say.

@Marina – Aw, I’m partial to what Judy said.

@aprilsimnel: Haha, when I first read your post, I looked back at the thread and thought “Wait… did Judi post and I missed it?” Took me a second to realize that you didn’t mean Judi the flutherite.

i’d love to, but i would feel so wrong doing it, manipulating someone’s emotions.
but how cool would it be if it wasn’t an issue of ethics!!

Any other day I would have said “no” but I just saw that Scarlet Johannson movie last night, and I’d certainly use it on her, ethical or not. :P

well, if I could dilute it so it had a limited effect, like for a week instead of forever, I know a really cute truck driver I’d like to slip it to, just to liven up my workday. Oh, I am so bad!

I’d totally use it on myself so I could live happily ever after with my best friend.
