Legal Prescription meds question...
My dr perscribed me Ambien a few weeks ago and I have noticed that I do some freaking weird things while on it. I spent 8 straight hours editing all of the photos in a series… to my suprise they were pretty freakin great. So, my qustion is…. what does it do you you when you take it and just get bogged down in other things and forget to go to sleep. I’m not talking about intentionally misusing the meds, but if this has happened to you what are some of your stories. I find it makes me really creative and productive in my chosen field, photography and editing. Just what does this drug doing chemically to me?? What type of state is it ushering me into? What is in the pill that makes makes me way more creative and productive while on it?? Just wondering if any other Flutherite has the same situation.

Well, I was on Xanax for the longest time, and it made me into a zombie. I could barely function on it, and I was on the lowest dose. Finally, I started taking half a tablet, and then a quarter tablet to stay under the prescribed uses and also be able to function normally.
Sounds like your drug is a plus, in certain ways.
I don’t consider it a bad thing. It would be really bad if I took more that prescribed or ever drank on it. But as it is now with just one pill and nothing else….. it pretty much rocks. Just an unforeseen great side effect?!?! Of course I would never drive or do any other “dangerous thing after I had taken it. But what I really wanted to know are two fold:
Has Fluther ever one anything weird on Ambien?
(science question) What exactly is Ambien doing to my chemistry that it makes me zone into what i’m doing so deeply & feel so passionalty about it, that I finish 3 days worth of photo editing in 5 hours.
my doc gave me ambien to help regulate my sleep. it makes me feel drunk for about 20 minutes then i sleep for hours…i like it lol
Ambien does have reactions
I tend to sleepwalk when taking it and have really freaky dreams thus I limit using it to when I travel through time zones.
Interesting that you are more creative. Perhaps the reason for you is that the drug blocks brain chemicals that inhibit creativity. I do not know the exact chemistry so I am just guessing. Did you ever go to sleep?
@Dog: about 10 hours after I had taken the pill…. It was an awesome experience. So my brain is producing chemicals that inhibit creativity… that sucks royally!! So the sleep meds may be helping me out by unblocking them or blocking the blockers….!! =) wicked.
If I don’t go to bed right after I take it, I tend to do things that I normally wouldn’t and don’t remember til it smacks me in the face. For example, I have written emails and ordered things and don’t remember it til the next day when looking at my email box.
Ambien can cause transient memory loss and behaviorial changes. If you’re up for 8 hours editing photos after taking it it’s obviously not having its intended effect (making you go to sleep). Best to stop the medication.
Ambien increases the effectiveness of a neurotransmitter called GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid). GABA is the second-most common neurotransmitter in your brain and has massive, widespread effects. The places that ambien acts most strongly are places where GABA acts on a specific type of receptor, GABA[sub]A, which has a strong affinity for drugs that sedate you.
I hallucinate very badly if I take Ambien. I do not like that drug at all.
