I see Steve Harvey’s new book was/ is advertised. I don’t plan on reading it.

They can be helpful in building personal resources.
@_Liz Because we all need a hand sometimes. When I say “resources” I mean a type of personal strength reserve that is always there to draw on, and which sadly many people lack.
@_Liz OK. Well the best way I could explain is how I imagine a strong religious faith could make you feel secure inside and so on. Many people lack that or may have crises of faith, in which case their inner strength might need building up.
They work for some, but not others. If they help even one person, then it’s done it’s job. I have no qualms with self-help books. They don’t do anything for me though.
@casheroo I just feel the stuff in the books is common sense
@_Liz Some people need help with things that may be common sense to you. If they need something written out in a book, that tells them a guy just isn’t into him, then that’s what they need. Who am I to judge?
@casheroo eh, I guess. Maybe it’s comparable to extremely book smart people who need help interacting with others?
I would have been depressed a lot longer without them…
I think self help books are great. They have taught me how to cook, how to knit, do needlepoint, and use a computer, given me tips and ideas on how to raise children and plants, how to cope with issues in everyday life and how to save money. Without self help books, I would really have had to struggle before the computer took their place.
