Have you saved them?
OK, you are being really annoying in general these past few posts. You are a new user from a site which is shutting down and you are coming in here whining about every single thing you can’t do, holding grudges for having your questions deleted, calling strikes on a website!
Where is your compassion or sympathy? Where is your care? Why are you being so temperamental towards the community which is holding its arms out open for you?
You are leaving a very bad flavour in my mouth and I seriously hope it doesn’t represent all of Wis.dm.
OK Mr. complainy-pants. Want to elaborate on the problem? Save us all the headache and call strike three on my post.
@dynamicduo – You, seriously, just ignore my posts. I am actually very disturbed by the fact that I updated my profile, and it does not reflect that. Is that not me trying to join the community and let others get to know me better? I was HOPING that someone would say “oh you just can’t see it, but we can” because I don’t want to have to type all of that stuff in again. Hence the question. Is this common?
And again with this sympathy and compassion talk. You don’t know me. You can get to know me, but don’t make judgments immediately. I’m judging a website, an inaminate, impersonal thing, and you’re judging my character from that. Please. You’re being pretty rude by not even bothering to answer the question asked.
@johnpowell – if you took maybe a few minutes to consider that I’m not being 100% serious in saying “strike TWO” you’d probably be able to like me better.
I’m wondering if anyone can see that I added things to my profile, and I just can’t see it. Or if the “save changes” button just isn’t working or I did something wrong.
I am asking a serious question.
@please_not_to_ask2, I have never had a problem changing my profile. Perhaps if you provided a little bit more detail about what you tried to change, and how you did it, it would be easier to answer the question. I’m sure if you look at your question and the information provided from the perspective of “what if someone else wrote this” you’d think “what the heck are they asking?” and you are coming across as “Mr. Complainy-pants.” If you don’t mean to convey that image, you might want to tone it down a bit. We’re sorry you all lost wis.dm. Losing Fluther would be awful for us, so we can relate.
@AlfredaPrufrock – I hated wis.dm. I’m not sad. I do, however, like asking questions, but what I did was go to “edit profile” type things into the boxes, and hit “save.” And then I checked, and there is nothing there. And I am having a sad about That.
If you clicked the save button and it didnt reflect your changes use this to tell Ben and Andrew. They are the guys who coded the site. They are really good about helping people. None of us have access to the code so we can’t really help.
They would want to know. I’ve had problems with updates on other sites when the server was running slow. Or it could be your browser. Last night, I couldn’t get pages to load on here when I was on Safari. When I switched to Firefox, I had a much better connection.
Let me see if I can change something in mine…
It let me change my bio without any problem… Did you try it again?
I changed mine. No problems. I added test to the end. It worked.
@johnpowell – Well I sent feedback. I shall try again. This is very upsetting. Of course I would be the one to have trouble.
YOu know—I’m just stupid. They totally said one of my sections was too long.
I suck. Epically.
Of course not. Glad it was fixable!
[mod says:] Hi, I’m Richard, one of the community managers here.
Your current bio is something like “biology student working toward genetics…”, so it seems to have updated okay. You can view your user profile at this page. If you have any more questions along these lines, send me a private comment and I’ll be able to help you.
We’re a small tight-knit team, not a big corporation; you don’t need to threaten to leave in order to get help; we’re always here for you!
Thanks, and I hope you’re enjoying Fluther.
@MadParty and @please_not_to_ask2 If you hate Fluther so much after just a day or two, you’re welcome not to find a site that suits you better. Fluther is a community, and we (or at least I) are not particularly welcoming of people who come in and right off the bat start insulting something most of us really enjoy and appreciate.
If you’re going with the “sarcasm” defense, a smiley face, LOL, tilde ~, or j/k works wonders to make you seem like less of an ass before you give us a chance to get to know you.
@dynamicduo , you stated: “You are leaving a very bad flavour in my mouth and I seriously hope it doesn’t represent all of Wis.dm.” No, it certainly does not. There are differing levels of maturity in all groups of people. Some people don’t adjust to change well, and have difficulty adapting to circumstances around them. This is like the “ugly American” syndrome. Americans travel abroad and act like asses, demanding the country adapt to them.
@The_unconservative_one: No, they fucking don’t.
Perhaps instead of ‘syndrome’ you could call it a stereotype which it is.
And keep in mind the vast majority of Fluther members are Americans, including yourself, or at least I assume so from your profile. Try not to insult the demographic that applies to you and your neighbors. It just makes you look like an idiot.
@asmonet , it makes you look like an idiot to deny the fact that Americans DO go overseas and act like they own the place. This isn’t conjecture, I have seen it with my own two eyes. Pointing it out is not “insulting a demographic”
@The_unconservative_one Are you actually saying that every single American acts like a pompous ass when traveling abroad? Because that is provably false. It is a stereotype, and as with all other stereotypes, they don’t all apply to every person.
@dynamicduo Absolutely not. I am saying that enough of them do, for it to have been noticed by lots of people. You will rarely (read never) see me speak in absolutes when talking about any group of people.
A certain group in the world enjoys cornbread more than any other, or at least a lot of people have noticed. Another group might speak with a lisp, and another might confuse L’s with R’s.
A lot of people have noticed a few of these people doing it, still a stereotype.
