What interesting threads that have dropped off the main page are still going--and worth sharing?

Asked by Jeruba (56062points) March 23rd, 2009

We have a sudden influx of newcomers (welcome, all!) from another site that is closing. Are there any ongoing threads you’d like to spotlight for new—and maybe even old—members of our community, just to enliven the discussion and share a productive topic?

Here’s one I’ll mention. It’s been running actively for about six weeks now, where some of us post a weekly progress report on whatever we’re working on: writing, painting, household projects, health improvement—whatever. Some progress is better than no progress. We cheer each other on and sympathize with setbacks, and some find that the weekly account is a spur in itself.

(This is not intended either to educate newcomers to the culture and running jokes or to show them how to write questions. Both of those points are covered in other recent posts. It’s meant to invite them into ongoing threads that some of us are still following but that are long gone from the front page.)

What older thread would you like to open or reopen to folks who might not find it otherwise?

Newcomers should certainly know the importance of pancakes here on Fluther and how to survive an attack by zombies. Oh, we might as well explain what a frizzer is to them also. I know there is more than this but these are my humble suggestions and I’ll look forward to submissions by other Jellies. =)

Those are great, and some folks have linked to them in other threads. They’re definitely part of the culture.

I was also thinking about actual substantive questions that might be attractive to newcomers for further discussion—for instance, topics that some of us are following and adding to but that are so old a newcomer will never find them, or topics it might be fun to start up again with a fresh infusion of comments.

How about this list in a question from Andrew?

By the way, @all, Bluefreedom and Marina answered this question before it was modded and then rewritten to clarify that it was not a duplicate of the guidance-and-acculturation questions recently posted for new members.

@Jeruba Sorry about that.

In the spirit of the revised question, here is one that occurred very shortly after I joined that led me on a merry sleigh ride.
