that really depends on your personal definition of political moderate in a specific sense don’t you think? one may or may not have tendencies that might not fit into a stereotype.
what is a political moderate?
someone between the reps and dems?
@Dr_C
Ones that have at least half a brain vs the extrmists on either side. Ones that hold with/to the Constitution of the United States.
@DREW_R ok, I am:)
(at least I think I am anyway)
That’d be me. Conservative on economic issues, more liberal on ethical/social issues.
Technically, I really love Democratic Socialism.
Your question is kind of open ended.
That would be me. More conservative on economic issues and more liberal on social issues.
The Right wants to control what I can do with my body.
The Left wants to control what I can do with my money.
I don’t care overly for either of them.
If that makes me a moderate, I’m guilty as charged.
i’ll just say middle of the road and leave it at that.
“A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have” -Thomas Jefferson
I’m in the middle, so yes, I’m a political moderate.
i simply support the issues i support, and disagree with those i don’t.
that being said, i don’t think identifying with either political party means that you have less than ‘half a brain’. i think that being pretentious and rude about your own seemingly superior views, however, certainly gives off that vibe.
Of course. There are all kinds here. I really find the labeling and polarizing that occurs in politics today very limiting and not all that helpful to the public discourse.
@DREW_R I am definitely a constitutionalist, in fact I teach it. Now how do you place yourself on the political spectrum. Remember you are also denying ths Supreme Court’s rulings on the constitutionality of the 16th Amendment.
I’m very moderate. I don’t like extreme views.
Income taxation (another thread)
I consider myself a moderate, for reasons explained elsewhere- yet I hesitate to fully align myself with those who profess themselves “moderates” yet fall more within the “libertarian” or other camp.
<Fiscal conservative (to an extent)/social liberal.
Completely logical.
Drew-3 questions, 3 right wing rants and you still consider yourself a moderate or are you a glutton for punishment? lol
@DREW_R
According to recent data from another thread many of us are left of center.
@SeventhSense i remember that thread… i was just to left of ghandi.. still wondering what that means…
@Facade Welcome to the collective. I liked the moderation of your response about being moderate.
@Marina Lol, I just noticed I did that. See, I really am moderate!
@galileogirl
I am a moderate, at least until someone steps on the Constitution.
I was the same with the Bull S&%# from the last admin. The wiretapping and the illegal war…
So that being said HI ;)
Denying a Constitutional amendment and misstating the purpose and langage of another one, seems a little like selective stepping on what you don’t like.
@galileogirl
Which one did I misstate? I have looked into the 2nd very well and what the Founding Fathers are quoted saying about it. There is no misstatement on that one.
If an Amendment was ratified falsely you are completely right. I do not trust my government as far as I could throw it. Left or Right.
And by your definition that’s moderate?
In 2nd amendment thread you said it was to protect citizens from the govt when the amendment actually says it is to protect the stat. You might try some formal education in this area rather than picking up what you can from paranoid right wingers. The thoughts of random early American citizens does not carry the same weight as actual law.
@galileogirl
Try reading the quotes from the Founding Fathers in referance to the 2nd Amendment and you might change your mind. I feel their input is very valuable when debating the 2nd. It puts into prespective what they were thinking at the time and they were very insightful about our future since they had lived thru alot of what we are going thru today with Britain and King George. Did it mean protecting the individual states from a tyranical government? Quite possibly so.
It is sad. Both left wing and the right shall suffer from the government straying away from the Constitution.
I’m a left-leaning moderate Independent. I support the social safety net as it is necessary since this country doesn’t have a “living wage.” I don’t believe that safety net is there to support lazy, shiftless bums.
DREW R, your avatar looks familiar to me. Were you ever a member on SH?
@marinelife I completely agree with you about polarization. There is one website where anyone who is not on the extreme right is demonized in some of the most horrific ways. How can anyone discuss our nation’s problems in a rational way when those who are left of center are called all kinds of vile names? I’m new here & I am so enjoying the respectful tone I see so many using. It’s like a breath of fresh air.
