General Question

I've searched the internet on Sam Kinison and every site states pretty much the same things about him, but why is it that not one of them state why he actually stopped being a preacher?

Asked by Sakata (3347points) March 26th, 2009

Is there some reason that people aren’t supposed to know he was kicked pushed out of the clergy because he wouldn’t take collection?

The best you can find is that he had to leave after his 1st divorce because that’s a taboo in the Pentecostal Church.

The rest of the sentence would be, “But the church does and that’s what they’re all about.”

It probably has to do with PR, whoever has control of his estate probably wants people to remember Kinison as the insane guy who performed at the Comedy Store with Roseanne.

If you have a citation about him refusing to take a collection, feel free to add it to the Wikipedia page.

Given what his personality and sense of humor seemed to be like and what I know of the Pentecostal church, I really don’t think I need to dig much further to understand why he might leave the ministry.

I can’t really cite anything for Wikipedia since all of that kind of information I know of him was told to me by my grandmother. Kinison is/was my 3rd cousin. It’s just puzzled me as to why all the facts aren’t there.

As for the “estate” theory, it’s the internet… since when to punches get pulled?

How do you know that your grandmother is not embroidering the truth, or misremembering? Why should we believe what you heard third-hand over what can be documented?

Those are probably why that slant on things has not shown up anywhere.

@cwilbur Don’t believe me, but believe everything else on the internet.

@cwilbur It’s true (and wonderful) that the internet is the perfect medium for outing information, but as an Online Marketer I know first hand the extreme lengths people go to protect their image. Since the web is such a great way to “expose” information and you (apparently based on your previous research) are the one with the information, the responsibility then rests on your shoulders to pass your knowledge on.

@drClaw: actually, I don’t have the information. You’re thinking of @Sakata, who’s a distant relative.

@Sakata: I don’t believe everything else on the Internet. But I can find several independent sources that verify the story in Wikipedia, while I can find no independent source that verifies your story.

Sorry, yes I meant to direct that comment to @Sakata.

I loved his humor but I never heard his comments on this from many Howard Stern appearances or elsewhere. I can’t imagine him not being forthright about it though since he was always irreverent.
He was the best.
