My feet hurt and ache whenever I do impact excercise. Any idea what may cause this?
I am a swimmer, in excellent cardiovascular shape, but I can’t even take a step class without foot redness, swelling, and pain. If any one has any idea what may be wrong, advice would be much appreciated.

Plantar fasciitis is one possibility. It is very common. Read the link and see if the characteristics match up with your situation.
get new shoes, nikes are thee best.
I agree with @A Beaverhausen, shoes. Or it could be poor circulation in your feet, you should do field and track stretches. It might help.
Make sure your shoes are sized properly. My feet seem to keep growing or sneakers are getting smaller, I am up 2 sizes from when I was 30.
Thirding.. or fourthing?.. bad shoes. Perhaps you need shoes with more arch support?
Shin splints? My daughter had to give up the hurdles because of them.
Here’s a quote from the link;
“One cause is an overused muscle, either as an acute injury or delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). The muscle pain is caused by any activity that involves running, jumping, also sometimes even walking, swimming, roller skating, or other basic physical activity.
An individual not accustomed to running may experience pain in the shin muscles the next day even after a single, short bout of intensive running.”
where is the swelling located? It could be any of the aforementioned things previous posters mentioned or something completely different such as rheumatoid arthritis.
This sounds like a question for a good podiatrist ;)
Seriously, I would go have have my feet checked out, if it were me.
Just based on your question, my first guess would be your shoes. Are they old or are they “cross-trainers” perhaps? Get some with more support—go for running shoes. Any good brand: New Balance, Asics, Nike, Brooks, I could go on and on.
I would go to the doc to be on the safe side though.
I would go to a good podiatrist. At the very least he/she could discern whether it is due to something about your feet or tell you to go back to your regular doctor to be checked for certain conditions. He/she also could prescribe orthotics, which can make just about any athletic shoe have the right support.
In my experience podiatrists know more about the rest of the body than a typical internist/family doctor knows about feet. Feet are a complicated feat of engineering and even minor things can cause unbelievable agony.
@Darwin You lost me at “in my experience podiatrists know more about the rest of the body than a typical internist/family doctor knows about feet”. I’m would state the exact opposite.
@shilolo – After years of living with agony in my feet and having multiple non-podiatrists assure me it was a) in my head, b) proof I am diabetic (I am not), or c) something I just have to live with, I finally got a referral to a podiatrist who was able to fix my feet so I can walk without pain.
As I said, in my experience.
@Darwin I’m not sure that your anecdote proves that doctor’s don’t know about feet. You probably needed a better evaluation and earlier referral.
@Shilolo – As I said, in my experience. And while a better and more knowledgeable evaluation and an earlier referral would have been great, the fact is that numerous docs could not do the former and did not do the latter.
Thank you everyone for your responses! @shilolo thanks for the link, but what I’m talking about is pain, swelling, and redness in the entire foot, not any one part. I think I’m going to see a specialist..
