Do doctors enjoy watching shows like, ER, Scrubs, And Greys Anatomy? If not, why? And if so, is it for the same reasons as anyone else?
Just something I was wondering about while eating some Hamburger Helper on my kitchen floor.

Scrubs is GREAT, I’m sort-of-watching ER right now… love the new av by the way. :)
From what i hear, Scrubs is the most accurate. Scrubs is also the only one i like.
PS House sucks
My nurse friends love all those shows. I’m not high class enough to know any doctors.
My aunt is a nurse. She’s also a teacher (she teaches OR nurses how to be OR nurses). She can’t watch them because they do things improperly and it bugs her. I blame the teacher in her more than the nurse.
The way I heard it if ER was ever happening around you in real life, you’re gonna die.
Scrubs I’ve also heard is most accurate, but then they don’t concentrate on the medical cases, just the interpersonal stuff with the staff.
I know my aunt who was a nurse practitioner couldn’t stand to watch some medical shows. Especially, House.
My doctor friends don’t generally watch doctor shows because they keep seeing how things are being done incorrectly. They also know too well it is rarely like any of that in real life – very few truly puzzling cases figured out by one lone gallant figure, and typically no bombs or gunmen at all. Mostly it tends to be a lot of the same: heart attack, stroke, influenza, car crash, shooting, gomer. Lather, rinse and repeat.
All the doctors I know are the same as Darwin’s friends. My friends who are lawyers have a hard time watching Law and Order and those type of shows too. (I’m SO happy I ended up choosing a different field! I LOVE L&O!)
I suspect some do, but probably mostly to laugh, and wonder why they are not getting all that hot sex in the staff rooms.
Grey’s Anatomy makes my doctor friends irrationally angry lol.
I don’t watch shows for their spot on depictions of the real word, my husband watches shows that have chefs and he gets frustrated when they screw up…but he still enjoys the shows.
Nope, the two I know avoid those shows like the plague. They don’t want to watch a fictionalized version of something they just did and they can’t stand all of the inaccuracies. One of them cringes at the mere mention of House.
I only can tolerate Scrubs, because it is about as accurate and funny a show about residency as can be made. House blows my mind, ER is completely and utterly and shamefully inaccurate, and I’ve never seen Grey’s Anatomy.
My friend the surgical resident says that the only reason to watch medical shows is to point and laugh, and that he’d like House a lot more if they were lawyers instead of doctors.
@shilolo, I’m guessing St. Elsewhere was before your time, but if you have seen it what do you think? It is the only medical show I have ever been able to tolerate, well that and Trapper John M.D., but that was only because I was an adolescent girl and Dr. Gonzo was so hot and he took his shirt off at least once every week.
@SuperMouse Sadly, St. Elsewhere was not before my time, though I was far from a doctor then. From what I remember, I liked it. Have to watch it again to really know. I also used to love watching M.A.S.H.
