Any more tips for a frustrated job hunter?

Asked by Strauss (23835points) March 29th, 2009

I’ve been out of work since July ‘08. I’ve refined my resume (I have three that I use, depending on the job description) and I also compose an original cover letter each time I submit an application. Any advice?

What are your skills and experience? How flexible are you? Are you willing to move?

What field are you in?

What sources have you used to refine your resume?

Have you read any particular books on job hunting?

Just keep at it. Persistence will get you back to work.

If you want to rehearse your interview skills I’m the mirror that also helps.

I wish you only the best of luck.

Yes here’s a tip: start your own business. The benefit is that you have the capacity to work with your strengths and decide how your life will be structured. In addition you have your finger on the pulse of the economy, as pertains to your industry, and can make adjustments(change or add to business) before personal recession hits. People always talk about job security and my experience, in working for others, is that that’s often not the case. In working at a job, if it is a business/corporation of another, one is subject to the mission statement of that company. Create your own mission statement and add value that only you can offer. And in addition you can write off expenses and keep your money rather than give it to the government.
