What is the purpose of "bath and shower gel"?

I was gifted with some bottles of “bath and shower gel.” It looks and smells like bubble bath, which is what I’m assuming it would be used for in the bath. I don’t usually take baths, though, and I’m mystified as to how one would use it in a shower. As a soap-making hobbyist, I’ve never been out of soap long enough to try it as a replacement, and wouldn’t that be like washing up with bubble bath? That would be an act of desperation, to me.

There must be some purpose to this frilly girl stuff. Is there enlightenment to be found on Fluther?
