Can chivalry be salvaged? Is there still a place for it in society?

Women, do you appreciate it? Guys, practise it? Give examples.

No it is not dead in my area- but it has become more rare and thus it is even more appreciated.

It’s just so hard to get a revolving door for a woman.

Just wanted to let you know about this thread which had some interesting points. I will refer you to my comment in that thread.

Why must it be chivalry and why must it be a gendered phenomenon? I appreciate when anyone holds the door for me, and I open the door for anyone if I get to it first. It’s funny because men will go out of their way to not let me hold the door open for them, even when it’s more convenient to just let it happen.

I don’t believe chivalry is dead. Instead, I believe chivalry has only grown beyond a self specialized class and has been embraced by people of all social “classes”. Hurray for chivalry/courtesy/integrity.

If you’re talking about treating women deferentially, I think that there’s a fundamental dissonance between expecting equal treatment because of your gender in some areas while expecting preferential treatment because of your gender in others.

If you’re thinking about honor, integrity, and courtesy to all, I think it can be salvaged.

I’m with @tinyfaery, 100%. Once I held a door open for a guy who looked shocked and embarrassed and said, “I’ve never had a lady open a door for me…” I almost literally had to bite my tongue to refrain from telling him that he still hasn’t. XD

It’s dead, and good riddance. I gave up the “privilege” of being a second rate princess to a bunch of guys for a shot at being a goddess that will rule over them.

The chivalrous can keep their kindness/manners/courtesy to themselves, I don’t want any…don’t give any either.
