Can this ipod be saved?
I have an ancient ipod mini. The computer with the itunes it is synced to is long dead. It hasn’t held a charge for more than five minutes for quite awhile now, but when I hooked it up to my laptop it didn’t charge at all. All I want to be able to do is get the music off of it back onto my laptop so I would rather not pay to replace the battery. Any suggestions?

Hmm… Is your Hard Drive (on the iPod) corrupted in any way? Or is it just the battery?
Try this article. And I know there are apps for this, but I don’t trust many of them with my music.
But please don’t hold me accountable if it doesn’t work :)
And back it up before you do this. It may not retain the metadata
About the Battery…
Will it appear to “charge” when you plug it in? That is, will the screen work, click wheel make stuff happen?
If so, then you’re in luck…
Hook the iPod up to your computer that you want the music transfered to…
then…
iPods store all of the music in a hidden file folder”:
ipod_drive_letter:\iPod_Control\Music\F# [there will be a lot of F#s] has every song on the iPod on it. Make sure that you are viewing hidden files and folders…else you won’t be able to see the iPod_Control folder…
good luck!!!

When I plug it in all I see is a file folder with a triangle next to it that has an exclamation point in the middle. It also makes this clicking sound. Might this mean the hard drive is corrupted?
That is a definite possibility. I am a mac guy, but go into the “Properties” of the folder and see what it says there.
Can you see the drive in My Computer?
R.I.P. SuperMouse’s iPod.
@blastfamy I can’t see it. Is that a bad sign?
@loser I think it is dead, just plain dead. I would like to ask for a Fluther moment of silence for my gold ipod. While we’re at it maybe we can have a moment of silence for my long lost keys.
