Are there any other "mature" Wii addicts out there?

Asked by ptarnbsn (466points) March 29th, 2009

I recently purchased a Wii system originally planning to use it in my work. Now the whole family is addicted and us older folks are almost worse than the kids. Are any of you other “mature” adults enjoying the Wii?

Well, I’m 42 years old but I can’t attest to being ‘mature’ all the time since I’m still young at heart. My wife and I like to play Wii Sports games together such as the bowling, tennis, and boxing and we’re looking forward to the new Wii Sports Resort (a.k.a. Wii Sports II) coming out later this year.

I’m with you on the young at heart thing! We use the Wii Sports, too but have the most fun (believe it or not!) with Wii Fit. I thought it was just an exercise program but it has some really fun activities on it. We especially like the balance games and find ourselves challenging each other to see who gets the highest score.

@ptarnbsn. I’ve been meaning to get a Wii Fit for some time now. One of my co-workers has one and he praises it highly because he and his wife use it and enjoy it so much. Time to go shopping. =)

i’ve got a Wii, and i’m 29 (dunno if that’s “mature” or not). But i have friends in their 40s and 50s who play it regularly.

@Bluefreedom Let me know what you think after you get it. I’m not much into the Yoga and strengthening stuff but the aerobics is fun.

@eponymoushipster Nah…..29 isn’t mature yet..LOL

@ptarnbsn that’s what all the ladies say, but even still, i requested that AARP in the mail.

I am. I’m turning 38 this week and I love the Wii. Wii Sports is my favorite, but I’m hooked on Mario games – my entire family likes almost all things Mario – most are pretty good for the family, we have two children – one 6 and the other 15 – we have a broad range to cover.

My daughter loves the Wii Fit, I just started using it for yoga. It’s not bad, still getting used to it, though.

@ptarnbsn You said “exergaming”...

I’m almost 28 and I love playing the Wii! It’s a little sad that you can beat me every time in hula hoop, though :(

I’m in my late fifties and play as much as I can. It is good exercise and fun.

I saw a story on the news a few weeks back about how they put one in the rec room at a retirement home, and they stated that the older folks would fight over who’s turn it was to play wii tennis. I started laughing at the fact because the same thing happened at my house with my siblings. I think its great that older folks are diving into newer technology.

@essieness And I plan to ALWAYS kick your ass in hula-hoop!

@fullOfuselessINFO Have you tried getting the balls in the holes on the balance game? It’s a blast!

ptarnbsn's avatar

@LuvBubble I’ve been using it with some of my P.T. patients. Even the ones with Alzheimers have fun with it.

I love Wii because it’s a sort of all-ages thing. There are very few video game systems these days that have something the whole family can get in on, and I think it’s awesome.
