Would you prefer fluther to be light hearted or deadly serious?

I’m getting sick of people writing essays in responce to simple questions, and getting over the top, long winded, boring comments when i respond to questions

I like it just the way it is.
You take the good, you take the bad…
You take them both and there you have the facts of life. The facts of life.
Why do you think it has to be one of the two poles?
No one’s forcing you to read these “essays”. Personally, I enjoy reading long comments.
I think I’ve written some deadly serious responses in a light hearted sort of way so I do NOT feel they have to be mutually exclusive of one another.
Its perfect. I mean you get the people to answer honestly and truthfully.
Then you get people like astrochuck.
About a year ago, fluther was cool, I could have a laugh and a joke, then I forgot about it, came back to it, and it is boring.
People change. Places change. You can’t expect something to stay the same, especially if you don’t bother to stay and make it that way :)
It needs to be a little bit of both.
a mix.
not just “straight q and a”
and not just purely “social chatting”.
Is it really “deadly serious”?
I’d prefer qualitatively informative with positive social interactions.
Oh, that’s what it is. Great!
@allen_o That’s what the chat is for. Are you saying you want fluther to me no answers at all, and instead just joke answers? How would that do any good? You have to remember that this is a Q&A site, not a chat room.
It needs to be a mix of both, just the way it is. It’s fun and informative at the same time. A perfect balance, I’d say.
Oh goody, more complaints…...~
Fluther’s a collective, a collection of people each bringing their own thing to the party, kind of like a pot-luck dinner. You’ll like some dishes more than others, and some not at all. You always have the option of not taking seconds on stuff you hate. But you shouldn’t be too quick to go up to someone and tell them their contribution tastes like crap.
Have you been reading Dale’s answers?
Gnats and whales have very different attention spans. A gnat should not try to be like a whale. They live in different worlds. Don’t sweat the essays (unless you want to learn something). Skip them and go on to what fits your attention span.
Like sex, a lil’ mix of it Is all Good!
I don’t see why it has to be one or the other. As long as we aren’t all answering serious questions with goofy answers, there shouldn’t be a problem with having fun some of the time.
Both, exactly how it is. :)
@allen_o: Did you consider that Fluther did not change dramatically but you might have changed subtly, just as we have? It’s not everyone else, it could really just be you.
I like Fluther as it is. It’s a good mix of both as far as i’m concerned.
So @allen_o, you say you left about a year ago…then came back recently…and, it was all different. Hmm?
I got an idea…How ‘bout you leave now (for about a year), and come back and see if it changes again to your liking.
It’s the only way you’ll know for sure
Go on. We’ll wait…
I like a bit of both – just like life. It all doesn’t have to be one or the other. Some days we put on a serious face, and some days we are just silly as hell. I like daloon’s analogy: gnats and whales. Different creatures, different appetites. So did you find another FABULOUS Q&A site while you were gone for a year? Please let me know, because I have spent about that much time looking for one before I found Fluther.
I would prefer Fluther to be deadly serious, and its users to be really smart, but I’m dreaming on both counts, aren’t I.
@frdelrosario: you’ve been around for what? Half an hour? And you’ve decided that flutherers are not really smart? Way to go! You just about hit the head on the nail. Why not do us all a favor and take an ice bath before you stick your foot any further down your esophagus.
@daloon chuckling from the side lines
@frdelrosario: Times like this, I wish we had negative lurve.
@daloon: Apparently it’s two-for-one schmuck week here at Fluther.
Good grief.
@cprevite Chuckling turning into laughing out loud
@cprevite—you know? That’s a sale I think I’ll pass up.
