Where can I buy some cheap but good furniture?
I have always wanted to have a red living room, not like all red but maybe some red furniture and then like a black area rug and black tv stand something like that, so far seems like it would be pretty expensive to do this, does anyone have some suggestions where I can buy these types of items but at reasonable prices? I know it’s a hard request but it never hurts to ask lol.

If you can do the painting or reupholstering yourself, you can look for furniture in yard sales and refinish it. At the end of the school year in university towns, there should be some good bargains to be had.
Ikea is a weird amalgamation of nice with Target-style cheap. Looks good but not all that sturdy.
Try consignment shops. Also unfinished furniture shops and do it yourself.
another vote for ikea ~ plus it’s fun (at least for me) to assemble
@syz: Ikea varies a lot—some of their products are shoddy and cheap, but others are reasonably good quality for the cost. You just have to shop carefully.
Ikea, or any unfinished furniture store [they are always somewhere, usually on the outskirts of town.]
I would suggest you visit an auction house, one can pick up valuable and beautiful pieces for very little money.
Ikea is a good source for affordable furniture. Craiglist and Freecycle are two of my favorite since you can post your wanted ad. Another thing you could do is try looking online for the furniture you like, or even the stores near you and then see if you can negotiate the price you want to pay. It may be hard with large furniture stores, but I’m sure in today’s economy a lot of people would be willing to haggle a little with you. Good luck!
Besides places like IKEA, the cheapest furniture pieces you’ll find are at places like flea markets and garage sells (you really never know what you’ll find). Like @Jeruba said, you could just refinish them yourself with paint, laquer, metallic spray paint…whatever you want. (Oh man, you should watch Danielle on HGTV’s “Color Splash” with David Bromstad. She can do some amazing things with pain.)
It also depends on where you live, if your willing to buy online knowing that you won’t be able to actually see the furniture before you purchase it, and what your definition of “cheap” is. A price range would kinda be helpful.
There are a lot of trendy stores out there, but not knowing what’s affordable to you, I’m not sure if I should recommend them. I know that out here in Arizona places like Ross and Burlington Coat Factory actually sell furniture and home accessories, and the variety at these places may surprise you. What are some of those other stores that sell stuff for dirt cheap…Big Lots might have some nice things. And, hey, there are even places like Target and Walmart!
But really, it depends on how much work you’re willing to do and what your target price range is.
Well really it comes down to if i wanna buy alot at once and go cheap or buy it slowly over time and spend a little more on each item. I’ll probably find a happy medium since I need alot of stuff right away but you guys have given some great ideas! I will look around and post back with where i end up at. As far as a price range goes, I am not sure I will have to see with what I end up with at that time…I will probably have about $1000 to start things off with maybe a little less, but thats pretty much for a kitchen and living room, bathroom stuff etc. etc. I think I can do pretty good with that though. Most expensive thing will be a couch and table probably the rest I can go to wal mart for or something like that which I don’t mind.
Hey, good luck with finding all your stuff!

Garage sales! Best prices around and tacky looking furniture can be refinished or painted to look nice.
