Do you have any sort of special item with meaning for you that brings you comfort at home?

My quilts made by my Great Great Grandmother and Great Grandmother…My son swears they have magic healing properties (I don’t do anything to dissuade that idea)

Where my mom sits on the couch in the evening before bed and plays with her laptop. When I’m feeling down, I like to crawl under the blanket she keeps there and sit the way she sits.

@Amoebic I like that :)

My home. It’s the home that I have lived in the longest and I have shared it with my husband.

When my son was in the fourth grade, he went on an overnight trip with his class. They had all been asked to take with a small equal amount of spending money for the trip. When they stopped at a novelty store, all of the boys used their money to buy toy cap guns. He told me this as he presented a small plastic dolphin to me (I love dolphins), saying, “I really wanted the gun, dad, but I didn’t have enough for both.”

@zen That’s awesome :)

@FGS Thanks. I rub it every so often like a good luck charm. Then I rub my eyes.

@zen My son makes me drawings (he’s quite good actually) I look at them when I’m down and missing him.

@jonsblond A home is a sanctuary. If you can make it one of those places that you want to wrap around yourself then that’s a great thing.

@FGS I am very lucky, thank you. :)

I have my original stuffed animals from when I was about 2–3yrs old, sometimes I open up my trunk/chest and have a look at them, smell them.

The remote control.

@VzzBzz The smell is the key isn’t it?

VzzBzz's avatar

@FGS: It’s so strange but after all these years and countless moves, they still smell like their original home, my grandparents’ home. That trunk is truly my own treasure chest.

@VzzBzz Going to my Grandmother’s basement is like that for me. All of my grandfather’s neat war memorabilia was there. Its where I liked to go and wonder. The smell is still the same and it brings back those warm thoughts of him when I go there.

I’m easy to please. I just love coming home on a cold day, a brutally cold day, to a warm house, or on a stormy day, to a warm, dry house. It gets me every time. It just means home to me. A place that is not just literal “shelter from the storm” but a sort of spiritual one too, I guess. A place that is mine, where I can find shelter from the elements and from a cold and sometimes harsh and unfriendly world.

@lillycoyote I get the same way when I’m on the road for a couple of months at a time…I just want to be HOME, with Kelly and my Frankie frank.

I have a cookie jar that’s all white and in the shape of a baker. It belonged to my grandmother and she always kept it full with Mother’s Iced Raisin cookies just for me. She’s been gone now for decades but I had always kept the same cookies in it until Mother’s Cookies went out of business.

@AstroChuck I remember Mothers’s raisin oatmeal cookies :)
