If you were a soldier in a medieval army, which position do you think you most likely would wind up in during a pitched battle? (I have a list here to help you)

Pikeman / Spearman (frontline infantry)
Swordsman
Skirmisher (usually front line / agile fighter)
Archer
Knight
Working the siege equipment / Treuchet
Being a porter, with the rest of the baggage train

i’d probably be a spy, off in a castle, banging princesses.
or a jester.
either way.
I am a very accomplished award winning archer.
I would be whoever gets to wear those silly helmets with the noseguards.
@eponymoushipster I think the Jester would be with the rear lines as he would be needed for morale & target practice if the troops get angry.
@lefteh Grab a pike & a shield, you’ve just been selected for the front line. Good luck.
@Kraken target practice? like “lonely solider”-type target practice?
if that’s the case, definitely the princess banging thing.
skirmisher baby, all about the mobility.
@Kraken trust me, if i’m up in the castle, going fredo-style on some princesses or whatever, i’m anything but “knave”. <wink>
i’m here all night folks.
I want to work the trebuchet! (You missed the b.) Can I pick what to fling?
@Jeruba Pat can I have a B? Yeah, I just noticed that. Well these things will happen even if we try to proof read. Oh well. How about Great balls of fire to fling at them?
@eponymoushipster But we’re in the middle of a pitched battle. There is no nearby castle. Some knight with a chip on his shoulder might just run you through with his lance.
I wanna help Jeruba with the trebuchets!
I would need a sword and an axe, that’s it… put me anywhere in the battlefield
I was thinking we could fling a massive gob of partially melted gummi worms for starters. What do you think, @MacBean?
i’d be the dead one. for sure.
hmm depends where and when, skirmisher
I would absolutely be a deserter in reality. Not that i’m afraid of death itself, but I see nothing but futility in kill or be killed. However, spiritually, I would be a swordsman.
I would definitely be a Knight because I am a very gallant, chivalrous, brave, noble, kind, honest, dignified, proud, and loyal.
Is there a position for the person who runs away and hides?, lol
@RedPowerLady – Come and man the trebuchets with Jeruba and me! We can fling fun things at the enemy from a distance! We’re starting with partially melted gummi worms, and then we’re gonna move on to congealed turkey gravy.
@Jeruba – True story, I have one of those. Not from that site, and mine is a bit smaller, I think, but… it’s still a little toy trebuchet! And I built one all by myself in Technology (which is what they call “Shop” now) when I was 13 or so. Flinging stuff is fun!
@MacBean I’d be happy to join the forces. Can we eat the gummi worms too?? If not, I’m out… lol
Special Forces unit of nine trusted men that are behind the line fighters only taking direct orders from the Queen. With a sworn oath for glory or death.
@Jeruba I did miss that question – the answer, well, nope :s
Squire…or a scribe. But I would prefer to be in logistics in the map room.
In the prone position..dead.
