How would I run a website on a LAN without using webserver software?

Asked by NaturalMineralWater (11308points) April 1st, 2009

E.G. Is there a way to fashion a URL such that someone from another computer on the LAN could get to “my documents” and find a html file there to view? How do you do it? IP + ??

I am limited with my resources and am basically restricted to using the method I’ve described.. can it work?

Microsoft UNC pathnames can provide that sort of functionality.

<a href=”\\your_pc_name\path\to\your.html”>Link text</a>

You’ll need to ensure that “your_pc_name” is setup with a publicly visible shared directory.

Hmm well the problem is that sharing is locked down tight.. We are able to connect and “share” through net meeting.. but it seems as if there is a simpler way for someone across the office to have access to a simple html file on the other side.. maybe that’s just me and my old fashioned windows nt mentality

Ah, in that case, no, you can’t. ;-)

I guess I’ll have to come up with another plan.
