What's worse: Eating when you're not hungry, eating right before sleep, or only eating one meal a day?
I know that if you don’t eat, you don’t really lose weight because your body sort of goes into “survival” mode and stores what nutrients it has instead of burning them… and I know that not eating messes with your metabolism.
For the most part though, I eat around 11 or noonish.. I’ll have one or two small, non-sugary/no carb snacks throughout the day (lately it’s been a stick of string cheese lol), and then I’m not hungry until I’m literally climbing into bed. I’m obviously not going to get out of bed and eat something then, because a) I’m falling asleep standing up by then, and b) I also know it’s bad to have a meal right before your metabolism drops to its slowest point for 8 hours.
I feel like I’m losing weight… I refuse to step on a scale, but I’m pretty sure I have… I also know that one meal a day isn’t healthy. But I’m honestly not hungry. Not that I don’t want food, but physically speaking, I’m not hungry. So what’s worse? My one meal/few snacks a day, or forcing myself to have another meal at some point throughout the evening, or eating right before I go to sleep when I’m physically feeling hunger?

Eating 6 small portioned meals a day is considered the best way to stay lean.
Eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner and have healthy snacks in between making it 6 meals. Try to eat at least 2 hours before you sleep.
I think it would be worse to eat just before bed. You need your energy during the day when you are active. I would rather eat a few small meals during the day, even if i was not hungry.
I eat when I’m hungry.
I drink when I’m thirsty.
And oh, just to qualify, when i said i would rather eat even though i’m not hungry, that would apply only if i realized i wasn’t having a proper appetite for an extended period – not getting enough nutrients for a long time is obviously not too healthy either i would imagine. Otherwise, i would also just eat when i’m hungry and not worry too much about it. :)
Congrats on your results so far! If you’re feeling better that’s so much more important than some number on a scale.
I would try eating something when you first get up. It doesn’t have to huge or specialized and I wouldn’t worry about carbs first thing, you’re going to burn it off.
The meal in the morning will start your body off right though, you’ll get hungry by midday and your metabolism should carry through, so you’ll actually burn more.
Everyone is different, so just give it a shot for a week and see what you think. My mom finally started getting something more than coffee in the morning and she was surprised what a difference it makes.
Eating once a day. If you do that, um.. best of luck with your wrecked metabolism. At least with the other 2 options, there’s some way to get nutrients in a steady flow throughout your day.
I think the worst is when you eat right before you sleep, besides, you get nightmares. But the other two are not good either.
It’s very individual. BMI and fitness matter.
I’d love to not get hungry… enjoy it! although I would vouch that there might be something wrong…
@ronski – for my mom?
She’s hungry by lunchtime, has more energy in the mornings and says she doesn’t get the “afternoon sleepies” after lunch… from all that I would guess her metabolism is higher since she’s started eating breakfast.
How about not eating at all .. LOL I think that’s the worst
All of these are quite bad..you are not hungry because your body adopted to your eating pattern. You should try to eat at least 1–2 hours before you go to bed, and it’s very important what kind of food you eat before bedtime (always choose something light, easy to digest).
eating once a day would be the worse. your metabolism would be so sluggish.
i hate eating before i go to bed. i feel heavy and blah. but going to bed when youre starving is uncomfortable too. there’s no winning there lol
