Can I use a mic on my iPod touch?

I have multiple apps, including Skype, that are for both iPod touch and iPhone. If I hook in a headset equipped with a mic, will it function? I got my iPod in august 08.

You can use any mic that you can use on your iPhone.

I dont believe any old combination of mic + headphones will work, as some come with two plugs, the plug on the iPhone and iPod Touch (2G) is a 3pin plug.

The new standard iPod / iPhone ones will work fine, as will any headphones designed for the iPhone in mind.
