Thanks! Now, does anybody know the best way to get rid of them?

@Kingkamandi
They eat insects and other small invertebrates. Get rid of those and the centipedes will leave.

I like them, personally.

yuck! growing up with those, I get the chills whenever I see them.

First of all, get screens on your windows if you don’t have them.

Second, kill them the moment you see them, so they don’t get away and breed

Third, keep your place CLEAN. If you have a basement, then keep that clean as well!

@upholstry

No need to kill them- the death penalty for trespassing is a bit harsh! Catch them and put them outside.

I like to untie their shoes and watch them fall down. 100 legs akimbo.

@crisw is right. Centipedes are beneficial insects. They are harmless and eat other bugs. If they really bother you, put them oustide in your garden. They eat spiders, termites, cockroaches, bedbugs, and ants. If you have house centipedes, it means you also have their prey. Get rid of the centipedes, and the other (not so beneficial bugs) will become more numerous.

If you know you also have ants, set up ant traps. If you think you might have bedbugs, get rid of the bedbugs. Once the centipedes don’t have a food source, they’ll leave on their own.

@MissAusten
just one tiny point- centipedes aren’t insects; they are members of the subphylum Myriapoda along with millipedes.

slaps self Yes, I knew that. At least, I know they aren’t insects, but I couldn’t tell you the subphylum. Next time I will refer to them as “beneficial arthropods.” :)
