Not a direct experience answer, but here’s info from The Thyroid Diet.

“There is one type of nutritive sweetner—stevia—that has no calories, and because it is not a carbohydrate, it does not influence blood sugar. It comes from a plant native to Paraguay. With a glycemic index of zero and no calories, stevia reduces cravings for sweets. Hundreds of studies show that stevia lowers blood pressure, helps prevent oral bacteria, and can even help regulate blood sugar. With no chemicals, it doesn’t pose some of the concerns that aspartame and the other artificial sweeteners present.

Stevia is approximately 300 times sweeter than sugar…”

My mother has MS and Bipolar along with other related physical issues. She has switched to Stevia because of her health concerns and I am very proud of her for doing so as she doesn’t naturally choose the healthiest of foods. It has helped her, I can’t say how exactly but I do know her doctor isn’t bothering her about the sugar issue and she has also lost a lot of weight.

Now I prefer Agave. Another natural sweetner. It is a syrup though. My hubby has switched to this for his coffee (vs. sugar) and I am also very proud of him. His family has a very high rate of type 2 diabetes and we want to make sure he doesn’t get it.

These alternatives are SO MUCH healthier than processed sugar and sugar substitutes/artificial sweeteners.

I use it instead of Nutrasweet or Equal, but I am not ready to give up my diet soda, so I have not reduced the other sweeteners enough to feel a difference.

I only use natural sugar, but have since tried using Stevia. I’m only on day 2, so I was just curious what other benefits people may have had from personal experience. I never use any other artificial sweeteners, just real sugar in moderation. I purchased an already powdered Stevia supplement, and I’m actually growing my own Stevia plant too. Gonna compare both. Thanks for the responses so far.
