Why would a line form around the block?
I see the darndest things out my window. There is currently a line forming that goes all the way down my street block and around the corner onto the avenue. The people are pretty varied, though it seems that most of them are younger. They have no unifying features of dress or anything like that, although a good number have backpacks and other larger bags. The group is racially diverse and the male/female ratio is pretty equal. The line moves in semi-large chunks periodically. I live in the East Village. Do you have any idea of what this line could be for?

Well, it obviously isn’t a virtual march for the Pickens Plan, cause you aren’t in DC and this is anything but a virtual gathering. I have no idea. Soup Nazi is back, perhaps?
I take it you are home a lot on Thursday nights.?
1. Somebody is giving something away free.
2. They are stuck together.
3. Somebody is telling people who come along to form a line, and they do.
4. They are waiting for a chance to view the remains of the guy on the roof with the flashlight, who was pecked to death by beaked aliens.
Why don’t you go get in line and ask the person in front of you, “Why are we standing in line?”
Those are the people trying to get rid of the “You have a question that needs editing!” banner.
I’d guess it was a casting call of some kind.
Do they look like bartenders?
I saw the same type of thing a couple of weeks ago right by the university I attend. I still have no idea what it was about. If you find out let us know!
They are signing up for the People’s Resistance Movement. You know… to fight the zombie apocalypse.
Concert? Political rally? Poetry reading? Movie? Book signing?
Wait! What am I thinking? You live there, right? They’re lining up for you, of course!
they’re lining up for free stacks of pancakes. :)
Free hummus and pita bread? I’d line up for free, delicious hummus and fresh-baked pita bread!
With no unifying features or anything else that defines them as a marketing bracket, I’d go with the opening of a new comedy (movie)? That seems to be one thing that brings people of all stripes together. Free food of some sort, like a franchise opening, is my second guess.
They are applying for the job. One of the few jobs left in this country.
