Has someone ever told you that you don't look like your name?
When I was young my grandmother told my best friend he didn’t look like a David, he looked like a Peter. So until she died, she called David, Peter (about 30 years or so).

Yeah. I’ve been told that I look like an Erin, which isn’t my name.
The weird thing is, my parents did name me Erin at first but changed it after 2 days. Kinda wish they had kept it.
Yes, my twin and I always get told we should switch our names. Which wouldn’t make much of a difference.
I am often called by another name by people who don’t even know me. Ironically it’s my middle name.
@Likeradar so did they have to change your birth certificate?
I don’t look like an “Alex”....they assume it’s short for Alexander.
My first name is proof that the universe has a sense of humour and it’s sick.
@Tangent_J Yup. My 1st and middle name was legally changed. Legend has it my mom was holding me and decided I didn’t look like an Erin. I was 2 days old… good thing she didn’t decide I look like a Booger or a Squishy Alien. :)
@Likeradar – never can tell what is going through a mom’s mind!
My parents wanted to name me “Anastasia Marie.” What in the hell
I was named after a local drugstore where my parents lived at the time. I was always grateful that it wasn’t a Walgreen’s or a Rite-Aid or some such!
I usually go by “Mr. Wonderful”, and that suits me fine.
Strangely alot of people have commented on my name suiting me alot although it may be that people simply associate me with my name as it’s uncommon.
It’s a lonely life being a Niall.
@MarshallO – true, you could’ve had WalMart dropped on you!
Nope, never been told that.
My first name is short, easy and unique enough that I have never, and I mean never heard of anyone else with it. Even Google only turns up one person, and their name is backwards, it’s their surname.
My middle name is not shared by any other person on the planet as far as I can tell.
Most people learn my name, then can’t imagine me as anything else. :)
Their words not mine.
No, I don’t believe so. I’ve been told I look like a Dominic, but that’s most likely because they already know what my name is.
@Dansedescygnes Oddly after having seen a photo of you for the first time one of my immediate thoughts was that you “looked like a Dominic”
I’m always told I look like a “Stud.”
I’ve never been told that I don’t look like a “Kyle” but there have been several occasions where I’ve felt like a Thomas. (The doubting kind)
I’m pretty sure if I were a boy, I’d be Timothy. I could be wrong though. I think my mother liked the name Timmy. I dunno.
My mother really wanted to name me Selena. My father talked her into my now name instead.
Funny, because I associate Selena as a more mexican name, and my name now is more of a russian name. People think I’m russian ALL the time, I was always a natural blonde, with blue eyes. So, I’ve never been told my name doesn’t suit me.
When I was younger, I was positively sure that you grew up to look like your name. I have no idea if I look like my name (it’s kind of like how you can’t hear your own voice).
I’m a Kate and most people tell me I look like a Kate. My full name is Katharine and few people think I look like a Katharine. During the span of a summer, there was this group of boys that decided I looked like a Sarah so that’s what they called me. Personally, I can’t tell what I look like, but I think it’s cool that some of my favorite actresses share my name(s). :)
However, I do not think I look like a Katie so I wish people would stop calling me that. No offense meant to any Katie’s out there, it’s a perfectly lovely name, just not for me!
Not quite – however, I have been told that “Bobby” is a child’s name and it makes me sound like I’m gay. The old man told me to start calling myself Robert and be a man, haha. Gotta love when customer’s say stuff like that to you and all you can do is bite your tongue.
@asmonet. I’m really into voyeurism too. Those eyes you see looking into your bedroom window? They’re mine. =)
I suppose I look like my name although it is rarely ever used. Everyone calls me JJ. Even the kids call me Aunt JJ. I like my name okay. It’s Jan’et.
My mother wanted to name me Leticia and call me Tish. If you knew me and knew how un-Tish-like I am, you would find the humor in that. My father flatly refused to even consider such a prissy-ass name (his words according my mom!).
