Did you have a sleeper room? What was the experience like?

I have a close friend who strictly uses Amtrak for travel. She takes herself and her two grade school aged children. She doesn’t like to drive. She travels at least twice a year in it. Typically overnight. She couldn’t speak highly enough of it. I’ve traveled on it but never overn night and never with a sleeper car.
its a WONDERFUL way to see the country. if you ever get a chance, do it!
my husband and i are looking into traveling via Amtrak from Texas (DFW) to Chicago, then to Toronto to see friends, then we would fly back. The only thing I am concerned about is the size of the sleeper rooms, as he is not so good with super tight spaces! I think we would love it though.
I traveled overnight without a sleeper car when I was about 10 years old. The only thing I minded was that my mother snored like you wouldn’t believe. My 10 year old self was too embarrassed to sit next to her while she slept, so I ended up wandering the train all night. I’d like to try it as an adult, with a sleeper car (especially since I now snore like crazy!)
I’ve done it before without a sleeper car and that was not fun, so definitely get a sleeper. The train experience was very enjoyable though, I’d like to do that some more.
We love to take the trip from Texas to Chicago (and back) via Amtrak (as long as we don’t get the Dining Car Nazi). We always get a sleeper for at least part of the trip, but also will go out and sit elsewhere on the train to stretch our legs. The sleepers come in various sizes so if you can spend the extra cash you can get a quite nice space. Even the smaller ones seem fairly sizable because of the big windows.
If you do get a sleeper, make friends with the sleeping car attendant. Many of them have great stories, and they can be very helpful.
I did once, but it was nearly a half century ago, and I don’t remember it much.
My last train trip was my honeymoon. My husband and I took the Amtrak to Savannah. We spent the entire envening in the club car, so we didn’t even need a sleeper. I love train travel and have thought we might do our next vacation that way, depending on where we decide to go. My husband is chomping at the bit to ride the 150 mph train from Washington to NYC.
