If you found that OpenDNS had been installed on your computer system would you consider it a violation of your privacy?

Also if STATS were enabled and tracking.

Um… it’s not installed on your computer.

You either rig your individual PC to use their DNS servers or – more recommended – rig your home router to use their DNS servers (and all your network PCs then get it, too).

So, at most, it’s a config setting.

Second, stat tracking is only available if your register for a free account, which includes identifying your network’s IP address on the Internet.

So… point is, the only violation of your privacy was done by you… or your network admin.

Either way, it’s not OpenDNS’s fault.

Alas- I am not being clear.

I am in no way blaming OpenDNS and I am aware that it is a network setting and phrased it wrong. My apologies.

Allow me to clarify:

Would you consider it a violation of your privacy if your spouse opened a free account on OpenDNS without your knowledge and was tracking your stats?”

Oh ho!

I understand. ”...without your knowledge…” Yes, that’s not cool.

Nope, not cool at all.

When I setup our OpenDNS account, I specifically disabled stat tracking after talking to my spouse about it. It’s just not something either of us cares enough about.

However, when our kids get older, we’ll probably turn stat tracking on… and let the kids know we’re watching. And we’ll probably up the filter level, too.

As always with kids, advances in age/maturity over time will mean that us parents will re-evaluate our position on a regular basis.

@robmandu Thanks for the response- it helped keep me in perspective. I would have had no problem with it at all had I just known. There is absolutely nothing that I do that I would care if my spouse saw it. It just feels weird.
