did you feel fine as you seen the towers fall down on 9/11 or the tsunami or Katrina?

Yes, actually I did.
But you’re taking a pop song a little seriously today, aren’t you?
I think they’re talking more about chaos in general and not the actual end of the world. I interpret it to mean “everything around me is absolutely crazy but I’m okay for now.”

i don’t think rem sang that.
The song is not about any specific event. Chill.
Maybe Michael Stipe is a man of faith who is completely at peace when contemplating God’s plan for His world. Or maybe he just thought it was a catchy rhyme.
oh hey, did you know a song that came out in the 80s wasn’t written with any connection to an event that would happen nearly 20 years later? ohmygosh. i know.
fyi, shakespeare didn’t write Romeo and Juliet so that DiCaprio and the other chick would make a movie. btw
perhaps you need to understand: time is linear. linear
@eponymoushipster what are you saying? Are you trying to convince me that The Bard didn’t write that part with Leonardo in mind? Wow that is truly painful to contemplate. I won’t ever believe it, I can’t, I just can’t.
It’s so much fun to sing along with this song in concert.
damn pop music. ever a thorn in my side.
Check back with me in 2012, if the world ended, i’ll make sure I note whether or note I felt fine about it.
@ninjacolin – “Thorn In My Side” is by The Eurythmics. ;)
The Blck Crowes would like to opine that it also a thorn in your pride.
so, was It’s a Wonderful World written about the past or the future or the far future?
so…if i read this correctly seven thinks that REM is in allegiance with al-quida ? god that guy has a warped mind…
oh shit, that’s right, there was an actual question amidst this silliness
@Blondesjon yes there is an actual question, so get your head out of the frizzer, put down those pancakes and get to answering it.
911 was actually orchestrated by Mary Kay Cosmetics & the Jiffy Pop people.
you heartless fuckers know who you are…and you look fabulous
Microsoft wanted that song for Windows ‘95 launch and they refused, so that’s something, I suppose.
it became “Start me up”
@seVen, it’s all about love and fear/hate, my man. If you don’t have love in your heart, it doesn’t matter what your actions are. Yes, I’m drunk fluthering. Also.
OH MY GOD I LOVE REM.
buuut uh.
i think if i was told that the world was ending i would, actually, feel fine. probably get a bag of cheetos and sit on my porch or somethin’. katrina and 9/11 are not equivalent to end of the world, though.
@kevbo Also, you crack me up. Also.
@kevbo Drunk Fluthering, smelling like a stripper. You are endlessly entertaining tonight. ;-)
Better than stripping like a smeller. I propose we always derail seVen’s Qs. It’s not like he comes back to check!
@PupnTaco Derail?! Are you saying they were on track to begin with?
he’s sort of the christian Bin Laden, he’s an extremist who shocks us, then dissapears for a while, then resurfaces… oh that kid…
