What are some of your aromatherapeutic experiences?

This isn’t another what’s your favourite smell question, but rather, let’s give each other tips on what has actually worked for you. Of course, in some instances it is individual, as tastes and smells are, but the use of essential oils (or even just fragrances) can have some powerful effects – both at home and at work. I’m including a nice little video I chanced upon.
By the way, I am an aromatherapist, and I’d love to answer your questions and hear of your experiences. link

I bought a bottle of perfume in Russia when I lived there. It might have been imagination or just pure coincidence, but when I wore it, women seemed to react to it and attract them. Or maybe i’m just incredibly sexy when i’m in Russia. I blamed the perfume though.
Have you read the book “The Perfume” by Patrick Süskind?
Aromatherapy greatly improves good thinking and memory. Some years ago I read a great book called “Neurobics”. Here’s an interesting, more recent article related to it.
http://library.pchrd.dost.gov.ph/index.php/news-archive/1151
Some of the key points regarding smell are the following:
“Neurobic exercises chiefly “present the brain with non-routine or unexpected experiences using various combinations of your physical senses — vision, smell, touch, taste, and hearing — as well as your emotional sense.”
“The sense of smell, for instance, plays an important role in memory. According to Katz, associations based on scent and aroma form quickly and endure for a long time, not like those based on the other senses. ‘The olfactory system is the only sense that has direct connections to the cortex, hippocampus, and other parts of the limbic system involved in processing emotions and storing memories.’”
@Zen: I’m a spa junkie and I’ll often partake in an aromatherapy massage or wrap. I’ve had many wonderful and relaxing moments slathered in delicious smelling oils & pastes.
For me, the smell is just as important as the purported effects; I purchase many things based on smell alone – soap, shampoos, candles. Music and scent association are the story of my life.
@oratio, I dated a guy in college that wore Royal Copenhagen cologne, and have followed men off the elevator and struck up a conversation because they were wearing it. Thankfully, not many men wear it, so that doesn’t happen too often. It’s a little embarrassing.
@AlfredaPrufrock: That’s the same cologne my Dad wore; he would have been flattered by your attention! :)
I probably followed him off an elevator at some point…teeheehee
Royal Copenhagen, huh? Interesting. Maybe I should use them both. Then I could rob a bank without needing a gun.
This past winter I made a wonderful discovery purely by accident. I started applying lip balm before bed to combat my chapped lips. I use Burt’s Bees medicated lip balm with clove oil and have found I sleep like a baby when I use it. It turns out the clove oil has aroma-therapeutic properties that help clear nasal passages and induce sleep.
@oratio, mmm, that would make a good story…too bad I’m not a bank teller; I’d just hand you the money and follow you out of the bank…
@AlfredaPrufrock He he. You are funny, and has the most interesting name. After some consideration, I have decided to love you deeply and with passion.
@oratio, thank you, gracious sir, I need all the deep and passionate love I can get these days…
@AlfredaPrufrock That’s fantastic, we have already much in common.
Now, how do I get the cake to you?
@oratio What’s the name of the perfume, buddy?
@mcbealer That was the point of this question. Thank you!
It’s called Double Whiskey, don’t remember what brand though.
@AlfredaPrufrock The cake reference was for that cake question about that guy who occasionally sent a girl cake, which of course is the normal and most effective way to win a woman.
@oratio, oh cake, absolutely! My little ol’ heart is going pitter-patter at the thought of chocolate raspberry ganache.
Sigh. You are perfection, right down to the well-crafted and grammatically correct posts. But alas, it can never be.
@AlfredaPrufrock
I know, sweet Kangaroo Puff! I think I knew it from the start. I know that a boy, can only hope.
Cause HOPE, the audacity of hope, is truly the one thing that can never be taken from a man who keeps his gazing eyes at the horizon. And they are gazing.
At the horizon.
My eyes.
Really, really much!
It could never be. I might be dreamy. I might be hung like an elephant.
(You know the Indian one? You know the one with small ears? It’s not much of an elephant as elephants go I know, but still you know, it’s an elephant. It’s still pretty big!)
But I know that you belong to the world. And I can’t stop you.
No, no! I won’t. I won’t hear of it! You have your whole life ahead of you! I would only slow you down. (You know, cause of the elephant thing. It’s really hard to walk!)
Farewell, my Chinese Noodle! We will always have Paris… (TX?!?)
Anyone else have a fragrant experience?
Thanks to some horrible driving skills by a cabbie, I reached home suffering really bad car sickness. I immediately went to take a shower with some lavendar body shampoo and I felt much much better.
Nowadays, when I feel bleh in the office, I reach for a little Vetiver. Smells lovely and perks up the sagging spirits a bit.
