Why would celebrities be more important?

I don’t think it’s proper to televise any funerals. It’s a time for personal mourning, not national voyeurism.

Who is jade goody?

aprilsimnel's avatar

@cheebdragon – A reality TV star in the UK who died last week. She had cancer.

Is it not normal practice to show some if not all of a huge celebrity/important person ?
So why would they show all if any of Jade’s funeral she didn’t deserve to be a Z list celebrity the fact she had cancer maybe took her up a few pegs on the list tho .

Maybe it was a slow news day?

@sandystrachan: While she may not have been a celebrity of any worth in your personal opinion; she obviously was to many other people. I had never heard of her and then she was everywhere, magazines, news, etc. So again, obviously, there are people that are interested, you just aren’t one of them. I believe she was on a reality show, and while they wouldn’t seem a vehicle to launch participants to celebrity status…they quite clearly do. ie: Kardashians, Paris Hilton, Survivors, etc.

the mention of Paris hiltons death gave me false hope for a second.

There’s nothing wrong with televising it. If people don’t want to watch, they don’t have to watch. Will there be celebrities there? Protests? They wouldn’t televise it if people didn’t want to see it.

Like it or not, reality tv is so big that it’s participants achieve a certain amount of celebrity. It doesn’t come from talent just exposure.

Plus the UK is really big on TV and some viewers were genuinely interested in this.

Personally I think televising her funeral was exploitative.

@The_Compassionate_Heretic- I think that the rights may have been sold to help support her two young sons. Also, she was quite young. People are probably very moved by that, no matter how “chav-ily” she may have conducted herself in life.

@aprilsimnel I didn’t know that. That makes me look at the tv event differently now. How sad for those 2 boys to lose their mother so young. I knew a guy in high school that lost both parents in a plane crash. He didn’t handle it well. He spent a ridiculous amount of his inheritance money very quickly and this funded a streak of reckless behavior that included riding a high speed motorcycle which he lost control of one day. That ended his story.

I hope the kids in Ms Goody’s family are taken care of

Personally, I couldn’t imagine seeing one of my relative’s funerals televised – no matter what their standing was in society. However, reality tv, like it or not, has made a huge impact (not necessarily for the better) on our society.

I don’t know very much about her, I do know it was either a love/hate thing, but regardless what people thought about her, she did have a positive impact. More women started getting screened for cervical cancer and HPV.

To me, funerals are personal, not for tv. Personally, I wouldn’t watch it, but someone out there may want to see it and to mourn her loss. I wonder what kind of impact it will have on her children – they should be protected now, someone needs to be making sure they are not hurt (further) or lost in all of this.

Even in death she still gets paid , As for the kids they have more than enough money from all her tv exploits . I really don’t think they need anymore Give the money to a cancer charity to help try develope a cure to stop others from suffering . No the chav that is deep set into her family wants the cash to them selves screw the rest .
