Calms me the hell down when I’m stressin’.
sometimes makes me cry, it speaks the things My mouth can’t say.
I play many instruments by ear so music really IS in my blood.
I couldn’t live without it. Sometimes it’s like therapy.
It’s the soundtrack of my life. It brings back memories of an exact moment in time when I first heard it, or the moment that most strongly defines it to me, and I feel like I’m living it again. Sometimes I won’t listen to certain songs because they represent such a wonderful memory that has passed, and I’m afraid that if I play the song again in the current time a new, substandard memory may replace the old priceless one…
Music keeps me balanced in a world that is filled with uncertainty.
Meditation and calming, emotion stirring and enhancing, memory locking and triggering and possibly a few other things I have forgotten.
At work, It can make me more creative.
In a car, some songs make me drive faster, while others keep me relaxed.
Generally, an epic songs motivates me to do things that I wouldn’t normally do.
It’s like a soundtrack to me. I know that’s cliche, but it’s true. I can hear certain music and remember certain times in my life.
I make music, and rarely listen to recorded music.
Music is an important part of the intervention that saved my life. When I was depressed and suicidal, if I played with my friends, I could, temporarily, forget the depression, and actually be creative. So my therapist assigned me to do this.
When I’m mentally stable, music is my meditation. It is my way of getting out of my head, and into that other way of being. It is my spirituality, perhaps even my religion. It is how I connect to other people. It is how I feel known. It is the only thing that sometimes lets me serve others without worrying about what they think of me.
Music communicates things that no other medium can.. it pulls on the heart strings of everyone differently… and I think for musicians this communication can be even more profound..
