Extremely. I’ve spent seven years formally studying it.

@cwilbur – I have studied it also and I can not fathom living without it.

I play many instruments by ear since the age of 4. It’s in my blood. I can hear every instrument in a piece of music and reproduce it on whatever instrument I’m playing at the time. Including water glasses!

@Mr_M – Awesome Mr. M. I understand when you say it is in your blood. Cool.

I love music. It makes me feel alive. I used to always go to shows, try to be on top of all the new bands, find the best obscure new music, always update my iPod. I’ve kind of relaxed with that though.

Music is my boyfriend.

A very close second to my kids and work. Something I could live without, but probably not very happily. Music is bliss.

It reminds me of an old Chinese (or maybe Yiddish) fable where a man walking down the street finds a coin and buys a loaf of bread with half, so he’ll from what to live, and a flower, so he’ll have for what to live.

Very important! I like almost everything except for hip-hop and some other related genres.

I have no idea what would have become of my psyche over the years if not for all the wonderful music in the world. And Monty Python. I can’t imagine it would have been anything good.

My world is surrounded by music.

Extremely! I listen to it all the time and I began studying it when I was seven.

Making music is an essential part of my life. I’d do it fulltime if I could. Meanwhile, it helps me get in touch with my spiritual side, and it is also a balm for me when times are difficult.

Music to me is very important, though I have only a small bit of actual training, and not with the instrument I currently use. Both listening and creating music are equally enriching. There’s something magical about four people with different instruments coming together and producing a sound that is new and unique.

not as important as you’d imagine

for a professional musician, I own very few CDs, which I hardly ever listen to. I just started work at a radio station (doing 2 shows every weekend), so I listen to some music there of course, but other than the odd CD when driving, I never really listen to music for fun unless I have to work on something (eg been writing music for a theatre play recently).

Thank you everyone for the great responses I appreciate it.

I have listened to every type of music also in my life. I currently have come to the realization that I mainly enjoy songs that are written with the basic chords of C, F & G. with no electric instruments. I find this a bit odd since I once played electric guitar and electric keyboard.

It’s almost as important as food and water. Almost.

I lurve music one hell of a lot.

I feel about music like an older uncle feels about his younger aunt.
