Why would it matter? it’s not really a big deal.

I don’t care if they drive American cars. However, if they bought a BMW with my tax dollars as opposed to a Ford, then I’ll have a problem.

Blondesjon's avatar

No. Most of them don’t drive the damn car themselves anyway.

It’s another seVen thread fellow conspirators. Join me for the glorious hijacking.

chyna's avatar

I don’t drive an American car, so I can’t expect them to.

FrankHebusSmith's avatar

Not really. I expect them to drive the car they like the most (assuming they can afford it on their own funds). If that car isn’t American, who am I to say they shouldn’t drive it? Sadly a lot of times the American cars just aren’t the better or more wanted choice.

BBSDTfamily's avatar

Nope, I don’t care what they drive.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

Good God! I’ve got more to worry about than what kind of a car some politician drives! I couldn’t care less.

Blondesjon's avatar

@jbfletcherfan…I still drive a ‘96 Ford Windstar. You?

don’t be scared…it’s a seVen question. he won’t be back for days.

ubersiren's avatar

Even American auto companies use parts made in China anyway!

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@Blondesjon LOLLL, okay…well, since I hit a deer in November & totalled my car, I’m now driving an ‘08 Buick Lucerne CXL. The car that got wrecked was a ‘01 Buick Century.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@ubersiren the Century I had was made in Mexico. I don’t know where this one was made.

skfinkel's avatar

Of course not. All the cars are made all over now. American car refers to an idea, now, and not a reality. Which is not to say it couldn’t change.

FrankHebusSmith's avatar

I have family members designing for 3 major automakers (GM, Chrysler, and Honda). And as they put it it’s very ironic, as most of the “domestic” cars are now made in Mexico and Canada… While most of the “import” cars are now made here in America.

casheroo's avatar

No, I don’t even notice.
Mine isn’t american. But, my husbands is, so that evens us out lol

AstroChuck's avatar

Yes, I do. I believe an American statesperson should make every effort to support American laborers, now more than ever. I feel it’s a patriotic duty for anybody that cares about the domestic economy and the American working class. I only buy union made American vehicles.
I would find it difficult to support a candidate that drives a Kia and shops at Wal*Mart.

Good question, btw.

KatawaGrey's avatar

@AstroChuck: I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or not and that worries me…

AstroChuck's avatar

Dead serious. Be afraid.

ubersiren's avatar

@jbfletcherfan : I have a Century… I wonder if it’s a Mexican Buick, too… ?

phoenyx's avatar

Buying something is an economic way of saying “do more of this.”

If a politician bought an American car that was innovative, environmentally friendly, energy efficient, etc. like a Tesla, I would be impressed. I think that’s the direction the automotive industry should be going.

DrBill's avatar

My whole world just turned upside-down, I actually agree with @AstroChuck.

How the hell did that happen?

casheroo's avatar

ew, i wouldn’t be happy with a politician that shopped at walmart either.

lefteh's avatar

I’m with AC too. Buying American is important, but perhaps most important in the auto industry. In my experience in politics, I have gotten several compliments for driving a Saturn rather than a foreign-made car.

nayeight's avatar

I don’t know. I agree with AstroChuck but I have a Honda Element and I love love love it! Before it I had a price of crap Chrystler PT Cruiser that broke like every week but I loved it too. I buy cars that I like and that fit my needs. I wish there were more American cars that could fit my needs but until then, I’m sticking with my Honda.

lefteh's avatar

Honda Elements are manufactured in Ohio ;)

AstroChuck's avatar

True. But not by union workers. However, you’re halfway there.
My point is that any politician that runs on a labor friendly platform should practice what he/she preaches. I hate hypocrites.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@ubersiren It very well could have come form Mexico. You’d have to do research in it to be sure, of course.

GabrielsLamb's avatar

I think we should make them carry one another piggy back singing “He ain’t heavy he’s my brother.” The whole way. *And maybe Nick-knack-paddy-wack, (This old man) on the return trip just for sh*t’s and giggles?
