Who is celebrating the Blessing Of The Sun?

Asked by Mtl_zack (6781points) April 6th, 2009

Blessing Of The Sun is the beginning of a new cycle of nature, according to Judaism. It happens every 28 years, and I really don’t want to miss it, even though I’m not that religious. Are you gonna wake up at dawn and pray? It’s on April 8th, and apparently you’re supposed to pray at 6:44 AM.

I like the idea but need to see the sun, gone for many moons now.

Oooh! I am! If I don’t oversleep! My rabbi and I are going for a run at 8:00, and then going directly to a Birkat Hashama service at 9:00

@Likeradar: I hadn’t heard of it either until last week—how are we supposed to know about it? it only happens every 28 years!

My brother’s an Essene Priest. I bet he’s all over this.

I did it, but it was kinda anti-climactic, since there was no sun that morning.
