I'm on Mac OSX.
Here's one idea: select all --> copy --> new document --> paste
p.s. I've found neooffice (
http://www.neooffice.org/) to be a solid, free, and complete replacement for Word on OS X (or OpenOffice if you're on Windows). It's a little slower to start and not as pretty, but otherwise seems to have equivalent, if not better, functionality.
hmmmm... I'd rather have functioning Word. Every document I open becomes infected - so the new document trick doesn't work. I'm thinking since it seems to be that people build macros into their documents that there's a way to just remove them.
Okay. So what you might have to do is edit your "normal" template... it's the file you get when you make a new document... you should be able to open this file and remove the macros (I don't remember exactly how to remove macros though)
yep, my normal template is definitely messed up... i'm still looking for how to remove the macros...
under Tools there's a Macro option that lets you add them, but I don't see a remove/cancel/undo option, and I don't see current ones appearing...
Do you have the CD that Office came on? Try reinstalling. DON'T OPEN your infected documents. Because Macro viruses run on VBA, they replicate in Office for Mac. Don't worry though--other than replicating they can't do any harm.
Try opening the document by clicking on the icon for the file. There is usually an box asking if you want to run the macros.
