Use moisteriser everyday religiously.
Lotion! Lotion! Lotion! Also nice soaps that aren’t harsh.
Avoid excessive washing, and really hot water it only drys your skin out more.
Vitamin E oil – it will repair your skin very quickly and you don’t even need to use it nearly as much as typical lotion.
I really like the Cetaphil (or generic version) face lotion. It is so rich and keeps working for hours.
Supposedly, lotion is NOT the way to go. Dermatologists say cremes.
@Mr_M : what is the specific difference?
My husband had horrible chapped hands and the dermatologist told him to soak in water/eppson salt twice a day and to use eucerin creme.
Jojoba oil! It’s not really an oil, it’s a wax. But, it’s the closest thing to human sebum. It’s natural and works great!
Slather on some creme.
Then put on some gloves.
They make some especially for this.
Seems really gross, but can really work wonders.
Cetaphil instead of soap and lots of moisturizer. Find a moisturizer that doesn’t contain alcohol or scents and try to use it after each hand washing. Like @Nimis said, putting the moisturizer on under some gloves (avoid latex which may irritate your skin further) works great. Do it before you go to bed and try to keep the gloves on all night.
My kids get horrible dry skin in winter, and the pediatrician said the harder it is to work a moisturizer into the skin, the better it is for you. Eucerin is great. Also try Aquaphor, which is more like an ointment (made by Eucerin) and works really well on chapped, cracking skin.
My hands thank you guys!!!
I think my pinky finger just snapped off…
Wash hands in lukewarm and do apply good moisturizer everyday. Petroleum jelly can help your hands.
