I’m 35 and have a 9–5 office job, so I sit a lot. I noticed over the past year or two, my muscle tone has taken a turn for the worst. What types of exercises are best for getting toned and firm muscles?

Nothing beats rock climbing. If you’re not the outdoorsy type, find a local climbing gym.
For those muscles, push-ups seem ideal.
Push-ups? Do you have weights and bands?
Weights, even lightweight to start, works for me
Please browse the right-hand column of this website. :) It is sorted by muscles, and you click on the muscles and it tells you what workouts to do for those muscles. When you click on the specific exercise, it brings you to a page with an animated picture showing how the exercise is done.
There are a lot of websites out there like this, but so far this website’s exercise demos have the most accurate form for executing the moves properly that I have seen.
Very important! When training the upper body, do not neglect the back! If you strengthen the front of your body without balancing it with back work, you set yourself up for imbalances that can lead to injuries and chronic pain.
Walking totally tones the arms, even if you barely swing them. I don’t have big arms so it’s noticeable when I’ve been walking—definitely gets the muscle definition going!
depending on what condition your joints are in, incline bench gives you chest a square and defined shape, Lawn mower pulls are nice, Butterflies are great too.
for arms? under arm pull ups and dips are nice, and lots and lots of curls.
make sure to work on your back and core a lot as just working your chest and arms can really kill your posture.
p90x baby! Look it up, I’ve been doing it for 3 weeks now. When I started I could only do 1 push up, correctly. Now, I can do 10. Along with many other things.
