What are some interesting things that people are doing to maintain their long distance relationships?
I’m in a long distance relationship myself. I call my girl friend overseas every morning and chat on the phone for an hour. Hearing her voice makes me feel that she’s close by. We don’t use our web cams much since we don’t like to sit near our computers when we talk. Strangely, I feel more at ease when I don’t use a web cam. Occasionally I would send out a gift package. I would like to try something new that goes beyond the use of phones and web cams.

A cute thing a friend of mine did with his long distance girlfriend is every night they would call each other and tell each other bedtime stories. I thought that was adorable.
When I had a LDR, several years ago, he lived 8 hours away but still in the same time zone. We would watch Mystery Science Theatre 3000 when it came on, and then go talk about it on IRC.
I’m really dating myself, eh?
You could do something similar. If you’re not worried about the phone bill, watch a movie “together” at the same time, or whatever shows you like.
My ex and I used to lie in bed at night and talk on the phone, and would do so until we both fell asleep, with the phone right beside our ears. That’s how I went to sleep. I woke up a few times with digits pressed into my cheek, though, ha,.. but, it was nice. :)
You could send a love letter!
meet somewhere in the middle, geographically, if possible, and stay at a cheap motel by the river. enjoy a couple rounds of dime store malt liquor and pretend like youre doing something really naughty.
Love letters, love emails, texts, talk on the phone at night when your both in bed, send little things in the post to suprise her (flowers!)
Text sex, phone sex, ongoing commentaries throughout your day.
Really listen to each other, and not just pretend to listen to each other.

My boyfriend and I send each other pictures of random things we see throughout the day that remind us of each other.
We also play Xbox together. He has a Netflix account so we both watch Netflix on Xbox live. Sometimes there’s an option to “watch with party” so you can watch it at the same time. :)
Otherwise, sexting…phone sex…sending pictures ;)....
It takes a bit of creativity.
