Sound Recording Freeware?

Asked by bobisho (178points) April 8th, 2009

I’m not asking about something that records sound like a tape, but something that records sound only on the computer, again, not like a microphone, but like recording the computer. If you understand that… I’m not the best with words…

If you’re using a Mac, use Audio Hijack Pro. It’s free, too.

Record from applications like iTunes, Skype or DVD Player. Record from microphones, Radiosharks and other hardware. If you hear it, you can record it.

Audacity does this well on any platform. You have to set the recording device to line out to record what your speakers are putting out. Also, on a macintosh, “Wire Tap Studio” does this as well.

Try NCH’s online software. They have both pay and free versions of their services.

i know exactly what you need!! you need the free easy hq recorder follow the url

http://www.roemersoftware.com/

and download the 2nd item on the list with the title of “FREE Hi-Q Recorder Version 1.92 NEW!” its 3.14 MB and its totally free

with the old version you could only record up to 3 mins of audio but with this new verion you can record as much as you want allowing that you have the disk space to do so. it is very easy to use and no tricks to it. there is this annoying window that pops up when you first open it which you cannot close until you record one thing and it comes up everytime you open the program i just hit record and stop quickly so i can close it.

and to change where it saves the file to go to options in the upper right hand corner and press it. two windows will pop up just hit ok and there will be another window and in the bottom left hand corner you can change where it saves to.

hope this helps

@FiRE_MaN Are there any independant reviews on this software? I’m looking for similar software but I’m always wary of downloading something that may put a trojan for spyware—especially if it’s free.

@Benny um im not sure youd have to look. none that i know of.. but i use it all the time and i have a hefty version of norton running so. you might want to check download.com and see if its on there. they virus free every time ive used them and people talk about the downloads.

@FiRE_MaN I feel better that it has a free and a paying version. A lot of sites do that. Does this software allow you to clip and edit? Or does it just record and convert the file?

just record and convert:( but i usually dont edit audio so its good for me.
