Are you living in the past?

Asked by KalWest (1389points) April 9th, 2009

In the documentary “Grey Gardens” it seems as though both women are much more comfortable reliving their respective youths than facing their old and middle age. Have you ever found yourself in a similar position?

I really haven’t ‘lived in the past’ up to this point in my life. I live for the moment mostly (the here and now in the present) and my future looks bright too so I’m excited to see what it has in store for me later.

I’m living in 1930, what about you?

Sadly yes. It is hard to accept I suppose; getting older. The thing to remember is that getting older is merely leading up to the greatest unkown adventure of all. I mean death of course. Not that I am in a hurry to take that wild ride, but it should be something to accept and if nothing else embraced when the time comes. The american society especially is very afraid of death, thus we can see thousands of people everyday try to act young.

Maybe. My car is like what the Flintstones have. You kinda have to run first to make it get going.

No. There isn’t a lot I would want to relive. It was fine the first time around! Keep moving forward!

I like looking back and remembering…catching up with old friends and thhen coming back to the present!

I kinda believe in time as fluid. So I think of it a bit differently.

But to answer your questions I’ve never been much of a child. Always grown up.
I’m learning how to live in the present though instead of the future. It is really quite difficult.

I’m much more apt to fret about the future than relive the past. I really need to find a way to just be.
