Have you ever left your desk with NSFW content up on your computer?
Twice now while working at the reference desk at my university library, I have walked away with somewhat inappropriate questions on the screen. When I need to help someone I need to get right to it, sometimes I forget to minimize the screen! Both times when I returned, I am sure my face was bright red when I realized what I had done! Has something similar happened to you?

OH NO! No. I really haven’t done this before. I wish I could follow you around and make some loud noise to get your attention! I’d do that for you. red faced with you!
Nope. But one of my old bosses not only left the stuff up on his computer (unless clients showed up), but would call us in if he got something in his email from a pal that he thought was particularly funny. The only time no one walked in his office was when he had Rotten or Ogrish up. You could hear when he had Ogrish up. I’d have to close his door. It was a very small company. Freeeak!
@aprilsimnel: ew, how unpleasant. i was kind of intrigued because i figured those were porn sites i hadn’t heard of. i just googled and found out how wrong i was.
This hasn’t happened to me yet, but I can imagine how you felt. I have had both of those questions up while my sons were awake and the second they got anywhere near me, I went to a different question!
@aprilsimnel…oh, ick!! I’ve heard of Rotten – my ex likes the site and thought it would be great to show my daughter! I’ve never heard of the other. I’m gonna leave it that way!
Now you all have me curious, but I’m afraid to look! I’ve never heard of Rotten.
Those sites are very, very not safe for eyeballs. Ogrish features a lot of various media of distressing things that can happen in life. Rotten is similar, but only photos.
I admit to using Rotten to prove something to someone who didn’t believe me about what happened to Chris Farley.
The only time I ever looked at Ogrish was when I wanted to know what really happened in New Orleans, and Ogrish had some of the photos that weren’t shown to the public until Spike Lee did his documentary last year. There’s a lot of Middle Eastern hostage videos on that site that have bad endings. I couldn’t bear to look at any of them, but my former boss (and a few others at that job) could. :(
@jonsblond Oh, man. Now I’m having Faces of Death flashbacks.
I’m super careful because I have kids in the house, so as far as I remember, this has not happened to me. Yet.
I trained myself a long time ago to minimize or close anything I didn’t want to make public. I don’t walk away with the fluther screen up, even at home. At work I don’t even turn away from my computer (when I’ve been fluthering or reading personal e-mail or anything not directly related to work) without actually logging out. I am sure this excess of caution will save me one day. I don’t mind the inconvenience for the sake of the peace of mind, knowing for sure I won’t get caught.
Ok.. I’ll admit it.. I had no idea what NSFW was.. had to look it up. But no… not for me… we’re not allowed to use anything but government sites at work.
@jonsblond – Yes, except none of the footage or photos are fake.
