Is there a boy or girls name that you've always liked? If so, what is it (or are they)?

Asked by Jude (32204points) April 11th, 2009

For me, I’ve always liked the name “Joel” for a boy and thought that the name “Ava” was pretty (classic) for a girl. I had recently heard the name “Baya” (Bay-a) for a girl. It’s pretty.

I named my daughter Ryan, and I still love her name. It suits her perfectly.

I’ve always liked single and simple names. My election would be Gabriel for a boy and Maria for a girl.

My great grand mother (rest her soul) was named fina. I’ve always loved that name so much!

I like Elizabeth for a girl, because there are so many variants that the person could choose as she redefines herself through life… Eliza, Liz, Beth, Betty, Betsy

I always like Christopher for boys… I don’t know why, exactly. I guess from an affinity for Christopher Robin when I was a little girl!

I’ve always like different names or names that meant something to me. For example I love the works of Jane Austen so I’ve always like the idea of naming a girl Austen (after Jane Austen) and a boy Darcy (after Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice). The names are kind of switched with the gender you would first associate them with, but hey, I knew two guys named Kelly.

Then there’s Nunzio and “Li’l Cheech” for a boy, and Fiorina for a girl?

I’ve always liked the names Lola, Veronica, Leila, and Carrie for a girl. And I’ve always liked the names Ryan and Erin/Aaron for a boy.

Girl: Stella or Evelyn
Boy: Axton or Sailor I also like Henry

@essieness Ooh, I like the idea of naming a girl Stella. Or maybe even Star? That sounds so hippie-ish. xD

For some odd reason, the name Maere for a girl seems so exotic to me. If I’d had a daughter, that’d been her name. Or maybe Jadzia, that’s a cool name too.

But no kids for me, so I guess my next pet is going to get stuck with a funny name like those two I mentioned. At least no one in school will make fun of them or mispronounce it.

mangeons's avatar

@evelyns_pet_zebra You wouldn’t name your daughter Evelyn?

evelyns_pet_zebra's avatar

@mangeons oh Hell no, to provoke the wrath of my Creator is something I would never do. It’s not a good thing when humans and gods to intermingle, if my understanding of history is any indication. ;-)

mangeons's avatar

@evelyns_pet_zebra She wouldn’t be flattered to have her pet name his daughter after her?

For boys: benjamin, james, dmitri, pyotr, vlad, and gabriel.
for girls: anastasya, alysandra, svetlana, hope, and lillian.

I love Eurpean names, especially Russian, Slavic, Irish, and Romanian.

I like the idea of Dmitri, but it has to be Demetri, with another e, otherwise I think it looks funny, like you just forgot to put a letter in. I also like Demetrius.
