How do you speed fluther up when your firewall is blocking all the ads/spyware on the site?

Asked by FairLady (1points) April 11th, 2009

My firewall isn’t letting anything through other than fluther stuff, which is making the site really slow. Fixes anyone?

Um, there is no adware or spyware on Fluther.
There shouldn’t be an issue, you should have the option to allow certain sites by marking them as safe.

Yeah, there is no adware or spyware on Fluther. So if you see any on Fluther than it is because your computer is infected with spyware/adware. You should perform a scan for spyware on your computer.

There are actually ads. Look to the right. There should be no spyware however, and no pop-ups.

Can you go into your settings and tell it to always allow everything @fluther.com?

Can’t say about the ware for sure, only that it’s blocking stuff from sites that provide ads and track Web activity. Maybe I’ll allow them on a weekday, but not a Saturday night.

I will honestly say that I don’t know much about how all that stuff works… but having been on this site for well over a year, I am pretty confident that Andrew and Ben have designed this site to be safe.

The ads are how they keep Fluther free for us, and the tracking is so they can list the similar ‘Sibling’ questions and so the Ads are also somewhat relevant to the Question being viewed. I wonder if any of the archived blogs address this. Or perhaps you can pose the question to the collective about how safe is Fluther since it does use such software.

@shilolo and all: “ads” are not the same as “adware”

OH SHIT HE’S ON TO US! FUCK GUYS, WHAT DO WE DO NOW? OUR SPYWARE PLANS HAVE BEEN EXPOSED!

@La_chica_gomela: With ads being stated as ads/spyware I like others assumed he meant adWARE. Assumptions aren’t great, clearly.
