As soon as you see "Ask a question" do you ask one?

Asked by Zen (7748points) April 12th, 2009

Do you have questions you think about all day just for fluther? Do you write them down?

I asked a question last week that I thought was interesting & would have been fun. At first, I had several answers. Then I got an email that it wasn’t worded right. Oookkay..I added a little more details. Mods STILL weren’t happy with it. I said to hell with it. No more questions from this chickadee. I’ll just post.

It really pissed me off because I see some sorry questions on here that’s allowed to stay. Go figure!

@jbfletcherfan I know!!! But they didn’t mod this one, eh!!!

Hope that it doesn’t get moderated. =)

Yep. And, lately, I’ve had so much going on and have felt overwhelmed, so, this (Fluther) is one of the places that I go to for help (here and family and friends). You all are such a smart, helpful bunch here.

I ask far fewer questions than I answer and I’m not naturally compelled to ask one when I see ‘Ask a question’ like you mentioned. I’ve had occasions where I think about asking a question and I’ll go as far as writing down the query so that I won’t forget it at a later time if I decide to go through with it.

@Zen I see that. You just lead a charmed life, huh?

Zen's avatar

@jbfletcherfan I do. Thanks for asking.

Sometimes I type my whole question and then think, “no, this isn’t a good question”...so I tend not to ask very many questions…I’m very wary of the whole thing.

@miasmom Yours are great. Ask away!

Usually I go to the archives and search first. Then I get lost in the archives and stray off- topic and often never get around to posting.

I ask questions I genuinely want to know. For example – while I was trying to tie my fiance’s tie for him [I insisted on trying], I try to remember the little rhyme I heard on Dexter [the tv show]. I couldn’t, so I hopped on the computer and asked the fluther if they knew the rhyme.

What is the rhyme boys learn to tie their tie?

And my question to answer ratio is 98/2030 or 0.048. My question history.

My question to answer ratio is 39/3677 or 0.010
So, no.

I tend to want to right when I first see it. Buuut since I only get so many questions in an allotted period of time I have to think it over before asking it.

I’ve been here for a year, and I’ve asked 26 questions. That seems like a lot to me.

Sometimes I have questions ready for when the time limit is up, and sometimes I don’t. Sometimes I lose a good question because I can’t ask it then. I never write them down. If I can’t remember them, too bad.

Sometimes I work at coming up with questions, just so people will have something interesting to think about. Occasionally a person will tell me they liked the question, and that’s nice. Sometimes I ask about things that have come up in my life. Sometimes there’s information I need. I’ve got a few of those last ones waiting in the wings, since I want advice of various types of equipment. But first we have to see if we can afford them.

I think about questions I want to ask, and type them out on my phone for later use. I’m wary of asking questions on this site…
I feel like people judge you more for the types of questions you ask, rather than your answers.

Thanks guys. Lurve.

I don’t think there’s anything to be afraid of. I’m going to go ask a sort of goofy question about names just to see what happens. What’s the worst?—a minute’s worth of typing gets rejected and thrown away? I can handle a trauma like that.

mattbrowne's avatar

I can’t help it. Yes, I’m guilty.

Zen's avatar

Me too, buddy. (Maybe that’s why we’re in lurve?)

@jbfletcherfan I have the same perception here. They mod well thought out questions which will spark discussion, yet they allow a lot of stupid shit to pass through. I think moderation has it’s place, but it shouldn’t be arbitrarily applied as it is here. The mods here definitely play favorites.

@FreeThinker I see you joined today. Have you been lurking for a long time? Or are you a returning jelly?

Well, my dumb question survived.
