If your country's military siezed power in a coup, what action would you take?

As in, the actual U.S. military? I’m certainly not getting on the wrong side of that, no siree.

Well I guess that depends on whether or not I agree with the military.

If I DIDN“T agree with them, I would wait a moment and see what happens to other people based on their reactions. If the military is being lenient, I would simply opt for protest. If they’re being heavy handed, covert actions may be necessary…

Here? I would hunker down and wait and see what happens.

I’d probably do something that would end with me being shot.

It depends on the purpose they took over, and what that would result in.

It would more likely be a private mercenary army, such as Blackwater, or should I say Xe.

I’d probably just say, “told ya so.”

The summer before the 2004 elections I bought some land outside Klamath Falls, Oregon. We spent the summer making a place that is in the middle of nowhere and is self sufficient. I was really into Permaculture at the time.

I would just go there. My buddy lives out there. We have cows, chickens, electricity and water. It is actually really nice.

now on a seriouser note, i would just move to canada, and by canada i mean the canada in epcott in disney world. ahhh!

In the US, there would likely be more than one faction in the military—at a minimum “coup mongers” and “white hats.” I’m sure most of us would sympathize with the white hats.

Tough situation. As a service member, I would certainly be opposed to the complete disregard of the constitution. Wait, I’m already opposed to it when the government does it. I think I’d have to claim conscientious objector status.

Find others who also have a problem with this.

Hey maybe that’s why some people want a huge fence between the US and Mexico.

Since I’m already a member of the U.S. military, I’m not sure what my position would be on this matter. If I agreed with the coup, then I’d remain in the military and keeping doing what my chain-of-command expected me to do. If I didn’t agree with the seizure of power that the military was undertaking, it would frustrate me completely because then I’d have to make some tough decisions about seperating from the military which has been my career for over 20 years. Luckily this is the United States and the chances of a coup occurring are non-existent for all intents and purposes.

I have been told, in some countries, such as Liberia, whenever the army appeared in the street, in force, the only sensible thing to do was to go home and hide under the bed (this is literally true; flying bullets). The army’s appearance usually meant that a coup was in progress.
