Is there a virus package that covers a Mac running Windows?

Asked by nary (3points) April 13th, 2009

I will be running Vista via Fusion on my iMac, and wondered what is recommended for virus protection that will cover both systems. I hate to buy two programs. Is it possible to buy one package that will cover both? Or are there good free versions for both Vista and Mac OS? (I have the iMac, but haven’t gone on the internet yet because of no antivirus program.)

Norton Antivirus 11 offers a package for Macs that included a licence for windows.

@nary: You don’t need any virus software for the mac, and I believe Fusion comes with a copy of Norton for windows… you just need to install it.

You don’t need an Antivirus solution for OS X as there is no where near the amount of risk involved with surfing the web without antivirus as there is with a windows system. You just need to install antivirus in your windows install – I would recommend a free Avast! home license.

Viruses can’t jump between both systems so you’ll be fine.
